Woods young reserves, made it two wins and 17 goals from there last 2 home league games as they continued their fast start to recent games, where they have become quite ruthless when at their best.

Another dominant display ended with a 9-2 victory, this time against a Leatherhead side, who simply couldn’t cope with the fast tempo and high pressing game that young Wood play. In fact the youngsters found themselves four goals up after a pulsating first 25 minutes and, the win has taken the U/19’s up to third in the league, with games in hand. They are now very much in the hunt to challenge for a first ever Suburban Premier League title.

To show the strength in depth of his very young reserve side. They were actually without two promising under 18’s, in Alex Morgan and Bradley Sach, as both were on first team duty against Solihull Moors on Saturday. We were also without Quba Gordon, who is out on loan at Hendon.

While u/18 skipper Ben Goodliffe was unavailable for selection, due to him training for a week with League Two side Colchester United.

After the 9-2 demolition of Leatherhead, Cameron Mawer, Woods Reserve Team Manager and Head Academy Coach said. “I’m just pleased that we managed to get the game on after so many cancellations lately. We have a backlog, so our games, will come thick and fast for the reserves, our U19s and our U18s. The next four months will tell me a lot and will be a good test of not only our ability, fitness and character but will be a test of how well the players actually look after themselves.

“Our progress with this group of players though, is way ahead of schedule. We again had two of our Academy players on the first team duty today. We presently have Academy players out on loan at Southern Premier and Ryman Premier level. We have our England College and U/18 skipper Ben Goodliffe training at Colchester United. That’s showing our Chairman, our first team manager Luke Garrard, plus me, our staff and our players, that the clubs infra structure and hard work is really paying off”..

Next home game for the reserves is a local derby in the County Cup against London Colney on Saturday 28th January (3PM KO)
