Boreham Wood Football Club’s Community Department are excited to announce a new disability group initiative within our increased community programme based at our Meadow Park home.

Following on from the success of our first ever Disability Football Festival in partnership with the Herts FA earlier in the summer. BWFC’s Community Department have now teamed up with Hertsmere Mencap and the Borehamwood Day Centre to deliver a weekly inclusion session onsite at Boreham Wood FC.

Back in July, ‘Wood’ welcomed over 100 players, carers and parents to participate in the Herts FA monthly Disability Football Festival. It was the first time as a club that we have ever teamed up with the Herts FA to host such an event and it proved incredibly successful. As disability groups from all over Hertfordshire were welcomed to Meadow Park in what was a thoroughly enjoyable event for all.

Since this event, BWFC and Herts FA staff have been working closely to start up a weekly disability session onsite at the Club in conjunction with the Hertsmere Mencap and Borehamwood Day Centre groups. Last week, the groups finally came together for the first time, which again proved to be hugely successful and was enjoyed by all.

Community Head Coach Cameron Mawer commented “This was an initiative that we set out in our development plan last year. We hadn’t previously worked with disability groups and we were very keen to start an inclusive partnership with both the Herts FA and local groups.

“If we get it right, It really could be such an amazing collaboration and so worthwhile. Not only are we working with these local groups, but our coaches are gaining experience from Herts FA coaches to develop their own coaching skills in respect to disability football.”
