WOOD versus DOVER ATHLETIC IN THE FA TROPHY THIS SATURDAY

23 November 2011

This Saturday, 26th November, Boreham Wood will host Dover Athletic in the Third Qualifying Round of the Carlsberg FA Trophy, kick off 3pm.

This will be the second time in a fortnight that Dover Athletic have travelled from Kent to Meadow Park, as both clubs met in an exciting Blue Square Bet South league encounter only two Saturday’s ago.

On that day ‘Wood’ won an enthralling game, as they came from a goal down and played a large proportion of the game with ten men after a 17th minute Luke Wilkinson sending off, to win 4-2 – which was hugely helped by a Michael Thalassitis hat trick.

Dover Athletic come into this Saturday’s game off the back of a 3-0 home defeat by table toppers Woking and would like to revive their season after a recent dip of form has seen them fall from a play off place to seventh.

The furthest both Clubs have reached in the FA Trophy is the Semi final. In the 1997–98 season the Whites reached the semi-finals of the FA Trophy but missed out on an appearance at Wembley, losing to Cheltenham Town.

However as recent as the 2005-06 season ‘Wood’ reached the Semi finals, being the lowest ever ranked side to do so when they were in the Southern League Eastern Division, but were unfortunately knocked out to Woking.

An exciting and open game is in store at Meadow Park this Saturday, so come down and support the Lads.
