It was a frustrating afternoon for Boreham Wood, as they fell to their first away defeat since September, losing 2-0 to fellow promotion rivals Aldershot Town.
The Shots had taken the lead inside of 15 minutes, when Jake Gallagher (11) fired home from close range.
Matt McLure then doubled the deficit with just 15 minutes to go, making the most of Shamir Fenelon’s driven cross.
Danny Woodards went closest for the visitors, who threw all they had at their play-off challengers.
Scott Doe came into the centre of the back three, for his second full Wood debut, and Ricky Shakes replaced Angelo Balanta on the point.
Looking to continue their impressive away form, Bruno Andrade flashed a volley at the Shots’ goal, but it was blocked by former Wood defender Callum Reynolds.
Aldershot countered and McLure’s whipped cross was taken down by Fenelon and around Jamie Turley, but his driven effort was caught by Grant Smith.
The Shots opened the scoring on the 11th minute, with Fenelon at the heart of the attack. Gallagher had latched onto Fenelon’s clever flick and thrashed the ball past Smith.
The match remained an open affair following the goal, but Morgan Ferrier’s header, from Andrade’s free-kick, failed to trouble the home defence. Andrade then fizzled his next free-kick at the Aldershot goal, but it sailed over the crossbar.
Fenelon and Gallagher linked up once again, with the latter sending a deft chested pass through to Fenelon, but the linesman’s flag was raised for offside.
Woodards thought he had levelled the scoring when he sent a thumping volley towards the top corner from 30-yards, but somehow, Lewis Ward tipped it over.
Aldershot continued to trouble the Wood’s new-look back three, with Smith getting down quickly to push Josh McQuoid’s fired strike around his left-post.
In continually end-to-end fashion, Keiran Murtagh’s long-free kick was claimed by Ward, following a header from Turley. The hosts countered through McQuoid and Woodards had to charge back and slide the ball clear.
A clever back heel from Murtagh released Andrade, who fired the ball into the hands of Ward, from the edge of the area.
The Wood had a great chance to level the scoring inside the first minute of the second-half, but Murtagh’s powerful header went past the post, from Andrade’s corner.
McLure’s direct running had been a feature of the game, but Woodards done well to get back and battle the ball clear, from the surging forward.
Desperate to get back into the game, Ferrier charged around the outside of his marker and into the Shots’ box, but Reynolds got a foot to the ball and saw it clear.
Gallagher snapped up Doe’s block on the edge of the area, but could only thump his effort over the crossbar.
Aldershot doubled their lead with 15 minutes to go. Fenelon’s cross was flicked at goal by McLure and Grant Smith was unable to get enough onto his save, to keep it out of the bottom corner.
Despite a two-goal deficit, the Wood continued to chase the game, and Andrade done excellently to flash past his marker on the left-wing, but no one could meet his low cross.
With just injury time remaining, Ferrier teased a similar ball across the box, but again, no one could meet it.
