Boreham Wood FC Chairman Danny Hunter has announced an exciting new education initiative with the inclusion of two brand-new onsite A Level options on top of the Academy’s normal Sport, Personal Training and Business courses.
Hunter said, “It might not sound like much, but it has taken me over 20-years to finally achieve the creation of onsite A Levels for our Academy scholars. Back in the early 2000’s, I felt we could create study suites and an education and sports programme for all, that included onsite A Levels. I felt back then that was an achievable ambition, but it turned out to be not so easy.
“However, after our recent facility upgrades and as we near the completion of our very long and successful education partnership with Barnet & Southgate College, I have, with the assistance of our new education partners SCL, found a way to roll out A Levels in Psychology and PE onsite and I’m just delighted for our scholars, structure, education partners and staff.”
Hunter continued, “The progress we have quietly made off the park at Meadow Park over the last decade is now there for all to see. In truth I’ve not just only gone and spent our FA Cup windfall on improving the first team and chasing the elusive EFL dream, but I’ve tried to be more forward thinking than that and tried to balance things out, and by June we will have spent more than 2-and-a-half million pounds on our facility upgrades over the past 14-months.
“Next season I’ll embark on my 25th season here as Chairman, so I’m not getting any younger. In that time, I will have overseen more than 1,250 games, four promotions, two play-off wins, numerous Herts Senior Cup wins, incredible FA Cup adventures, while all the time keeping a realistic eye on the future to create a well-rounded community facility and Football Club, and I feel we are genuinely now getting there…
“At present myself, my Executive and my staff are working incredibly long hours in trying to enhance the first team and Academy structures, while looking to the future to improve the match-day experience for both our old school and our newer supporters, as well as for our local schools, residents, the wider community and for our ever-loyal sponsors and key partners.
“Admittedly we do still have a relatively small fan base, but that fan base has grown by around 300% since we first got promoted to the National League and if we keep looking up and to the future, I hope it will continue to grow.
“We are always trying to improve ourselves and once again we are in and around the play-off race as we enter the last two-weeks of the season, and by the end of June our new home fan zone will be nearing completion. Can I thank everyone for their patience, as a magnificent bar/eatery will soon be ready for the most prestigious home pre-season programme that I’ve ever put together. This will include four top Premier League clubs and a top Championship club visiting Meadow Park… Again, our contacts at these clubs have my heartfelt thanks.
“So, in these last few weeks of what’s been an incredibly long and hard season, it’s now only about us remaining positive, it’s not about looking back in anger but only about looking forward to Saturday’s Wealdstone game with ambition and pride at what we are achieving. Hopefully if we can reach the play-offs for what will be the third time in six years, we can attempt to make our 75th anniversary season one to remember.” Hunter concluded.
