Welcome, Matt Rush!

31 December 2024

Boreham Wood Football Club are excited to announce the signing of hard-working striker, Matt Rush. The 23-year-old arrives from Sutton United on a permanent basis and will wear the number 32 shirt for Luke Garrard’s side.

After coming through Southend United’s youth setup, making his EFL debut for the Shrimpers back in 2019, Rush applied his trade for a number of sides across the Vanarama National League South, including Braintree, Aveley and Maidstone United.

Rush excelled last season at Aveley and then with Maidstone United, joining them in November of last year, scoring an impressive 15 goals in 31 games, including one in the play-off quarter final. Thereafter, his goals alerted a number of clubs, and he chose Vanarama National League side, Sutton United on a permanent basis.

With limited game time at Sutton, Matt returned to the Stones on loan last month, impressively going on to net three times in just six games before we made his move to Meadow Park permanent today. It’s safe to say that the 23-year-old forward knows how to finish!

Luke Garrard commented, saying: “I’ve been tasked on my return to add margins to the team we already have in the building. I see Matt Rush bringing value to the forward line, just look at what he achieved last year at Maidstone, scoring a great return of goals in a small return of games.

In the short time he’s been at Maidstone for the last month on loan, he’s yet again had a positive impact. I’m sure he’ll bring an energy, an impetus and an eye for goal. The character of the man is everything I want in a player.”
