PLAYERS TO WATCH

“THE DESTROYER”

BEN GERRING

Ben Gerring came through the youth academy with Plymouth Argyle but was released in 2010 and joined Weymouth.

After spending five years with the Terras, Gerring left for National League side Torquay United in 2015.

Gerring spent two and a half seasons with the Gulls before moving on loan to Weston-Super Mare, the deal was made permanent in 2017.

The defender then had a short spell with Billericay Town at the start of the 2018/19 campaign, before he joined the Cards and went on to be a mainstay in the side that gained promotion to the National League.

“THE PLAYMAKER”

KANE FERDINAND

Ferdinand began his professional career in 2010 at Southend United in League Two where he made over 60 appearances over two seasons.

His impressive performances in League Two attracted a lot of attention from League One and Championship clubs, but it was Peterborough who won the signature of the promising Midfielder in 2012 where he made 32 appearances in his debut campaign.

Unfortunately for Ferdinand, his time at Peterborough looked as if it was coming to an end after he struggled to find his name in the first team squad meaning he would go out on loan to Northampton Town, Luton Town and Cheltenham Town before he signed a permanent deal with League One side Dagenham & Redbridge in 2015.

The Midfielder saw his time with  the Daggers cut short due to lack of game time and moved on to East Thurrock in the National League South midway through his first season at Victoria Road.

Just three months later Ferdinand put pen to paper and signed a deal for Woking who were in the National League at the time.

“THE FINISHER”

SAM ASHFORD

Sam Ashford spent time in Tottenham Hotspur’s academy before he was released as a teenager and then went on to sign for Maldon & Tiptree in 2014.

The forward made his name after he signed for Stanstead in 2015, where he went on to score a remarkable 32 goals in 68 appearances.

Ashford spent short periods with Witham Town, Brightlingsea Regent FC, East Thurrock United and Concord Rangers before he joined Hemel Hempstead in 2019.

Across the 2019/20 campaign, Ashford scored 10 goals in 29 appearances which earned him a move to the Football League when he signed for League Two side Crawley Town at the start of this season.

He made 13 appearances for Crawley before joining the cards on loan earlier on this month for the remainder of the season. In his debut on Saturday against King’s Lynn Town, Ashford scored to help the Cards take all three poitns.

LAST TIME WE MET

Boreham Wood 1-0 Woking
Tuesday 27th October 2020
Meadow Park, Vanarama National League

Kabongo Tshimanga had a chance to open the scoring in the early stages of the match but his effort was well saved by Ross in the Woking net.

In the 33rd minute, Gus Mafuta broke the deadlock after he reacted first and picked up a lose ball from a Sorba Thomas free kick.

Wood controlled the remainder of the game and had several chances to double the lead but failed to do so and the game finished 1-0.
