Boreham Wood FC are delighted to announce our new, young and exciting First Team management team ahead of the 2021/22 season. Watford legend Mr Lloyd Doyley joins Wood Manager Luke Garrard’s backroom team as the Wood’s new Assistant Manager, whilst Connor Smith returns to the Club within the First Team set up from local rivals Wealdstone to couple his current Club Academy Manager role with First Team coaching and playing duties.
Luke Garrard will also retain Martin Brennan as Goalkeeping Coach for a third season, along with Elliot Allum as our Senior Analyst, Loretta Browne will remain as our long serving Kit Manager, as will Mark Hughes as her Assistant Kit Manager.
With the recent departures on the First Team front of Cameron Mawer, David Dodds and Danny Woodards, the Club has been busy putting together a new backroom team after the conclusion of the 2020/21 season. It was important for our structure to find suitable replacements to compliment the Gaffer, who also know the club and who share the historical Club ethos of Attitude, Discipline and Desire – that ethos is often helped by promoting from within.
As such, the Club is thrilled to announce an exciting new management team, who have all been working for the club in various capacities for some time and we feel they are the right people to support our Manager and Club’s ambition, vision and aspirations.
Lloyd Doyley will need little introduction and as has been coaching at Meadow Park periodically over the last two seasons within our Academy, he was an obvious choice and joins the Wood following the conclusion of his playing career, which itself spanned two decades.
His playing career saw “Lloydy” become a Club legend at Hertfordshire’s premier side Watford FC. After graduating from the Hornet’s renowned Academy in 2001, Lloyd went on to make a total of 443 appearances for the Hornets at Premier League and Championship level. Short stints then followed with Rotherham United, Colchester United, Hemel Hempstead Town and Billericay Town before he landed at Kings Langley.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted Lloyd’s time with the Kings, limiting his appearances with Kings Langley to just 13 appearances since joining in 2019.
Lloyd joins Garrard’s backroom team with great experience having competed at the very top level of English Football with Watford FC in the Premier League, as well as at international level with Jamaica, who he made 9 appearances for between 2013 and 2014.
Welcome to the Wood, Lloyd!
In addition to Lloyd joining the management team at Meadow Park, the Club is delighted to announce that another familiar face in Connor Smith will return to the Club as the senior Coach within our First Team set up. Connor returns to Meadow Park from near neighbours Wealdstone having spent a spell with us as a player here at Meadow Park during the 2018/19 season.
Smith spent a successful two-seasons at Grosvenor Vale as a player, which included being an integral part of the Stones National League South winning side during the 2019/20 season. In a COVID-19 interrupted campaign with the Stones last season, Connor was a hugely influential figure in the heart of Wealdstone’s midfield and in fact Connor scored Wealdstone’s winning goal against the Wood when we lost to Wealdstone at Grosvenor Vale 1-0 in March (thanks for that, Con!)
At just 28-years-old, Smith boasts 220 career appearances, and adds two League Two promotions with AFC Wimbledon and Plymouth Argyle to his National League South winners medal with Wealdstone, as well as youth international honours representing the Republic of Ireland at under 17, 19 and 21 levels between 2009 and 2014.
Welcome back to Meadow Park, Connor!
