ENGLAND C COME CALLING FOR WOOD TRIO

2 March 2020

Boreham Wood FC are absolutely delighted to announce that three players, namely Kane Smith, Sorba Thomas and Kabongo Tshimanga, have recently been called up to the England C squad to take on Wales C on Tuesday 24th March at Caernarfon Town in North Wales.

Smith, Thomas and Tshimanga will join up with the 16-man three Lions squad following our away trip at Wrexham on Saturday 21st March, allowing them to familiarise themselves with their international teammates in a 2-day mini training camp before taking on Wales C on the Tuesday evening.

Amongst the other inclusions is former BW PASE Academy graduate Ben Goodliffe of Sutton United, too. Ben began his career with the Wood coming through the youth ranks at Meadow Park within the renowned BW PASE Academy before making his debut against Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park in 2017, earning himself a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, then of the Championship, for an undisclosed fee later that season. Ben follows in the footsteps of his father, Jason Goodliffe, who also represented (and captained) England C.

On their call up, Manager Luke Garrard had this to say, “I’m really happy for Kane, Sorba and Kabs. This shows how well they have been doing to get a call up to the England C squad.

“Kane has done fantastic this year to get over his long-term injury from last season, this will give him even more confidence to finish the season on a high.

“Sorba has now not only played England Colleges, but also England C, this is a huge accolade for him. He has showed a real maturity in his all-round game and definitely warrants a call up.

“Kabs for me is one of the brightest young talents at this level, his stats last year were very productive, and he has continued that form this year.”

Garrard concluded, “I wish them all the success in the game against Wales, let’s hope they can kick start their England careers with a positive result.”

Upon the squad news, Chief Executive Charlie Hunter commented, “It is with huge pride that as a Football Club we can boast three players within the current 16-man England C squad, the joint most players to represent a single Club in the current squad alongside league leaders Barrow, who also have three included. This is an amazing representation of the success we are currently having on the pitch, as well as the belief and trust Luke has instilled in youth and flare within our existing squad.”

Hunter continued, “It is testament to the three players; Sorba, Kane and Kabby, for the work they have put in this season and the performances they have subsequently given as a result. Their call ups are fully deserved. Congratulations lads and good luck against Wales C in three weeks times.”

On behalf of everyone at Boreham Wood FC, we would like to extend our congratulations to all three players; Sorba Thomas, Kane Smith and Kabongo Tshimanaga on your call ups!
