RYAN JOHNSON

Boreham Wood Football Club can announce that we have further strengthened the squad, with the loan signing of defender Ryan Johnson from Stevenage Borough.

Ryan is best described as a young powerful and athletic defender, who is the youngest player ever to make a first team debut for Stevenage. He impressed everyone when he started aRYAN JOHNSON STEVENAGEgainst Brentford last season in division 1 and is highly thought of by his parent club.. This season has seen him feature numerous times as a substitute for the Borough but he has found his starting opportunities limited.

Wood gaffer Ian Allinson said “I’m delighted to bring Ryan to the club, as he’s been on our radar for a while. We have been a little bit light on defensive cover since we lost Ben Nunn and I want Ryan to go and challenge for a starting position. We need competition for places in all positions if we want to succeed and having worked really hard across the board at the club over the last three or four seasons, this squad is the best I’ve ever worked with”..

Allinson continued “Our ambition was to get ourselves into a position where we can sustain a possible promotion challenge. We now sit second in the Conference South league but as we found out two seasons ago when our challenge fell away, It fell away through a lack of quality and squad strength. If you only have a bare bones squad, injuries or suspensions can change things in an instant and I don’t want to make the same mistake again and have explained that to the Chairman”..

Allinson concluded ” We now move into a very important part of the season, so I have asked the Chairman to support me slightly with the budget once again. I’ve explained where I believe I need to strengthen for the next month or two. I’m grateful he has agreed to back me, as we have big games coming up in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy and he understands we must not lose any focus regarding our league ambitions. It’s crucial that we not only cope with games coming thick and fast but cope with injuries, fatigue and pressure. We want to progress this club to another level and we want to improve as a team, this squad is more than capable of doing that”.
