Boreham Wood ended Aldershot’s unbeaten run to drag themselves up to fourth in the table.

Bruno Andrade opened the scoring in the 26th minute, as he netted his fourth goal in as many games.

Shaun Jeffers (40) then doubled the lead when Andrade’s low free-kick deflected off the striker and past the Shot’s stopper.

The away side pulled one back early into the second half through Cheye Alexander (51), but the Wood were able to see out the match and take all three points.

The Wood continued in their usual 3-5-2 formation with the fit again Dave Stephens coming in for Ryan Johnson at the back.

The Wood have had a habit so far this season of starting poorly, before impressing in the second half, but they were quick out of the blocks against Aldershot.

In the opening stages, Jeffers leapt highest to meet Andrade’s cross, but nodded it over the crossbar.

Kane Smith flew down the right wing and pulled a cross back for Angelo Balanta, but his header was blocked and sent wide.

A long ball forward from the Wood found Dave Stephens, but his powered header sailed narrowly over.

The Shots had struggled in the opening exchanges, but crossed from the left and Shamir Fenelon met the ball at the far corner, but blasted his effort wide.

Balanta’s low drive was chased down by Jeffers who attempted to flick it past Jake Cole, but the stopper grasped it.

Jeffers was threaded through by Balanta and slid the ball into the net, but he was pulled back for offside.

The Wood had looked dangerous in the first 20 minutes, but were unable to break the deadlock, they came closest when Balanta’s low cross was met by the diving header of Smith, but it drifted past the post.

The home side came close again shortly after when strikes from Balanta and Smith were both blocked by Cole and eventually thrashed clear by Callum Reynolds.

Andrade then got his fourth goal in as many games for the Wood; a quick free-kick fed the forward through on goal where he curled the ball past Cole for the opener.

Jeffers looked certain to double the lead just five minutes later, he was one-on-one with the ‘keeper and placed his effort to the right, but Cole somehow got a glove to the ball to keep it out.

The Wood did then double their lead after Andrade had been hauled down on the edge of the area. The forward stepped up to take the kick and drove it powerfully at goal, but it curtailed off the leg of Jeffers and dribbled past the already committed Cole.

There were two changes from Aldershot at the break and they returned a vastly improved side, James Rowe hooked the ball in-towards Shaun Okojie but Stephens intercepted to volley from danger.

Aldershot pulled one back shortly before the hour mark, Alexander picked up the ball and launched an unstoppable strike past Grant Smith and into the top corner.

The Wood had been rattled, but Smith danced his way into the Shots box, before leaving the ball for Balanta to strike, but Cole pushed the effort wide.

Nick Arnold then attempted his own 25-yard strike, as he curled an effort just past the right corner.

The Shots then went close again as they edged nearer to an equaliser, Rowe was found on the edge of the area, but his curled effort fizzed past the post.

Ricky Shakes was then played into the area and had only has the ‘keeper to beat, but from a tight angle, his effort edged past the post.

A Shots corner was taken short to Will De Havilland who took a touch before hooking an effort at goal, but Jamie Turley blocked.

Andrade was looking for a second and lashed a strike at the Shots stopper, but his effort rattled the crossbar.

Gary Waddock’s side were growing desperate for an equalizer, a long-ball was sent forward from the defence, but Okojie headed past the post.

With merely seconds remaining, the Shots won one final free-kick and everyone, including Jake Cole, was up for the set-piece. The free-kick caused havoc in the area and several stabbed shots at Smith, but eventually the Wood cleared their lines.
