Boreham Wood Football Club and their Community Department are delighted to announce their hugely generous £15,000 grant awarded from the newly established Football Conference Community Club Development Fund.
The Community Club Development Fund is a partnership between the Football Conference, the Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Association. The Premier League and the PFA have committed to contribute £400,000 each to the Fund a year for three years. This Fund of £2.4m is to support all the Football Conference member clubs and to help support and develop their community activities.
PFA Chief Executive Gordan Taylor said “We at the PFA are very pleased to extend our financial support to Football Conference clubs and trust that their players will embrace the concept that they can harness their potential and develop club community activities in education, health, social inclusion and equality and help make a difference!”
This money will go a long way to help deliver and support Boreham Wood Football Club’s Community Programme throughout the Local area. We are currently coaching in six local Primary School’s providing two hours of completely FREE curriculum School’s coaching per School, as well as offering FREE Primary School child season tickets, FREE quarterly newsletter’s, FREE goalkeeping coaching and lastly FREE injury and nutritional advice from our full time medical department to all children in Borehamwood and local area’s 11 primary schools.
The Football Conference Chairman, Brian Lee, said “We are grateful to both the Premier League and the PFA for their generosity in creating this fund. Boreham Wood Football Club is one of many undertaking important work in their communities and I look forward to seeing the outcome of their work.”
Community Manager Billy Hunter said “This grant is a welcome boost for the clubs community programme. Football is a great way to help all children’s development. It teaches them the benefits of a healthy sporting lifestyle and by using our physios, our first team players and our academy coaches to deliver that message, we believe our community programme, will make a difference to local youngsters in a positive way.
“This year our Community Department aim to give out over 10,000 newsletters, 25,000 child complimentary tickets for Blue Square Bet South home games, 300 child season tickets, treat and advise over 300 children on sports injury and nutrition, supply 480 hours of curriculum coaching to over 1,100 children and do this all at no cost to the child or school.”
Hunter continued “As you can imagine all these initiatives incur a huge cost and is something that could not be achievable, nor manageable without the generosity of the Community Club Development Fund, so we must thank the Football Conference, the Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Assocation.”
Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore, said “We are extremely pleased to be working with the Football Conference to establish the development fund that will allow Conference clubs, all extremely important within their local communities, to invest more funds in local youth development and good cause initiatives.”
Boreham Wood FC Community Department’s Loretta Browne, said “Our Chairman has alongside the PFA, the Premier League and the Football Conference invested heavily in our programme. He wants our Coaches, our Medical Department and the Community Department, to engage positively with local people and local schools. He wants us to assist the schools and deliver free quality coaching sessions to the children, with an emphasis on teamwork, club awareness and skills development. Our Club has worked hard to ensure we are part of a pioneering scheme, supported by the Football Conference, the Premier League and the Professional Footballers Association and this acknowledgement will give us the confidence to continue our progress, as we strive to move the club forward”.
