Woods Reserves started the second half of the season the way they finished the first with a first half destruction of rivals Woking in their first outing after the Christmas break in the Suburban League. Forty five minutes into the contest the Wood sat six nil to the good with the second half more a low key affair finishing 8-2.
The Young reserve side without the ever present Alex Morgan who was away with the first team. Morgan’s appearance on the bench seemed to give the rest of the squad an extra lift adding to the woods ever growing crop of young players to sign first team contracts.
The tempo and pace of the Woods attack and the intent to press and regain the ball out of possession killed Wokings enthusiasm right from the start. Goals going in at will in a first half that ended with six but if in all honesty it had been fifteen Woking would have had no arguments.
Bradley Sach started the scoring with a well worked goal to tap in from close range. Timothy Obinsanya should take a lot of the credit for his set up play with some really good work down the right to lay another on a plate for Sach.
Daniel Uchechi got him himself in on the act with a quick fire hat trick showing some lovely delicate 1 touch stuff around the box to give the wood the impetus and put them 5 goals up. Ezra Bolt finished the scoring for the first half with a tap in after Sachs shot was saved to continue his rich vain of form scoring 4 in 4.
Sach scored within 2 minutes of the restart to complete his hat trick with a lovely finish before having a header disallowed because the referee blow up too early for a foul on a wood player. Sach who continues his fine run of form with three hat tricks in a row, he is one who will be hoping his performances will catch the eye of First team Manager Luke Gerrard in the coming weeks.
Two late goals by Woking after some sloppy defending gave Woking a reason to cheer but Sorba Thomas ended the scoring with a low smashed finish from within the penalty area.
Gaffer Cameron Mawer commented shortly after the game “Our first half performance was first class from front to back. Woking came here on the back of some good results, beating top of the league Met Police but we were very ruthless in the first half and showed just how good a side we are going forward and how much talent we have but second half they got in our faces and the boys dealt with that really well”
He added “To have a first year on the bench for the first team today just shows the gaffer is giving the boys a chance and that bodes well for us. I feel it shows every member of the squad from our PASE scheme upwards, if you work hard and I do mention it a lot and it probably bores our lads to tears but if you show the right attitude, discipline and desire you have every chance to progress at this football club”
