Ray Kierstenson 1946-2011

1 February 2011

Ray Kierstenson sadly passed away on Wednesday 12 January 2011. He went into hospital for an operation on one of his knees, and was taken back into hospital after the knee began to swell, but died shortly afterwards, from a suspected blood clot.

Ray was brought to Boreham Wood Football Club by Manager Mickey Hunter in 1968. He was a tall midfield player, but usually played as a centre half. He made a number of First Team appearances between 1971 and 1973, and afterwards played his time out in the Reserves. He also assisted the then Manager and stepped in at very short notice. Ray played his last game at Broughinge Road in the 1979 Testimonial match for John Sneddon and Micky Jackson, so completing a ten year period with Boreham Wood.

During the eighties Ray returned to the Club as joint Manager of the Reserve Team with Ted Goldney, and later took sole charge.

Our thoughts are with his family.

Bill O’Neill
President,
Boreham Wood Football Club.
