Tom Whelan arrived at Meadow Park in the summer of 2023 from National League rivals Chesterfield. The all-action midfielder began his professional career at Bury before their unfortunate demise saw him join National League side Yeovil Town in July 2019. Tom enjoyed loan spells away from Huish Park with Salisbury and Weymouth, winning promotion to the National League via the National League South play-offs with the latter during the 2019/20 season, before joining the Dorset side on a permanent basis in September 2020.
Tom’s time in Dorset was short lived however as National League big hitters Chesterfield came calling, joining the Spireites for an undisclosed fee in November 2020. However, less than a year later Tom was on the move again, joining fellow National League side Eastleigh in July 2021. Tom returned to Chesterfield again in February 2022 for another undisclosed fee following the return of Paul Cook in the Spireites hotseat.
Despite becoming a fan’s favourite, Tom found himself out of favour at Chesterfield and following two loan spells with Aldershot Town and Solihull Moors respectively, he signed permanently at Meadow Park in July 2023.
