We are delighted to announce that our longest serving club official Peter Smith has been appointed Club President, following the death of our beloved Bill O’Neill in April.
Chairman Danny Hunter made the announcement by saying, “I knew instantly that Peter was the only person who could possibly replace Bill, and invited him to accept the role a few days after we heard the very sad news about our founding father. Thankfully Peter, who is also a great friend, agreed immediately, but we both decided that the announcement should be held back for a few months as a mark of respect to Bill and his family.
“Peter is a trusted mentor, a dear, dear friend, and despite moving away from Borehamwood in 1967 and now living on the south coast nearly 100 miles away, his love for all things Boreham Wood Football Club never diminishes.
“For me, knowing his lifetime of memori
es and love for the club, it made it a very simple choice to ask him to take over as President from Bill. It is the highest office I can bestow on anyone at the club and so I am absolutely delighted he has agreed”.
Peter himself said, “I am immensely honoured and privileged to be invited by Danny to become Club President. It is, of course, a bittersweet moment as the honour has only happened because we have lost my lifelong friend Bill, and in any event, he is impossible to replace. I will do my best, as always, to represent the club in the same outstanding way that Bill did for so long.
