Wood Young Guns March On
Boreham Wood’s Elite PASE Squad progressed through to the last 8 of the England and Wales National College Cup and currently top The Football Conference Youth Alliance..
Wood Elite 19s travelled to neighbours Watford Harefield in the last 16 of the National Cup and convincingly beat the hosts who up to this point had been unbeaten this season.
So for a young Wood side, a tough test lay ahead but they prevailed with a great second half performance to dispatch one of the national cup favourite’s, with goals from Micah Jackson, Jordan Thomas and in form striker Jack Vasey.
Wood opened their account when attacking full back Joel Murdock ran the full length of the pitch, jinxing through a number of tackles only for him to be fouled inside the box. Micah Jackson grabbed the ball and cooly sent the keeper the wrong way.
The goal of the game though came from second half substitute Jordan Thomas.. He worked a great one two with Skipper George Beattie to break through the Harefield back line. With still plenty to do and from an acute angle, Thomas bent his effort into the far top corner of the net past the advancing and stunned Harefield goalkeeper.
Wood’s youngsters then sealed the win, when quick thinking Conrad Russo played a great 40 yard free kick into Vasey, whose first touch and delicate lob finished off a fine days work from young Wood..
Elite 18s hit Fulham for FOUR.
Boreham Woods Elite 18s travelled across London, knowing a win would cement their position at the top of The Football Conference Youth Alliance.
Head Coach Cameron Mawer took a young exciting squad on the road and they duly delivered a comprehensive performance, while inflicting a 4 – 0 defeat on their hosts.
Two goals either side of the half sealed 3 points for the 18s, who with lots of first years are developing into a very impressive young team.
First Years Alfie Barker, Joshua Coldicott-Stephens and Danny Gribben opened the scoring for the youngsters with Second Year skipper TJ White completing the rout..
Wood now currently sit top in this prestigious league and with just five games to play their is everything to play for.
With the business end of the season now nearing, Woods Elite look set to play a big part in where the League title will go and progressing into the latter rounds of the National Cup makes for an exciting finale.
PASE Director and head coach Luke Garrard said “It’s been a very productive year thus far with this group of players. They have progressed so much and are starting to develop into a good squad. I was very impressed with the manner in which they played today, their game management in a pressure game was tremendous” .. Garrard continued, “I’ve seen a marked improvement with the Elite 19s, especially in the last six to eight Weeks, this coincides with the hard work of our Reserve Manager Steve Newing. Steve is with them on Saturdays in a very tough Suburban men’s League and playing in that environment is giving us a maturity and understanding of how to control a game”.
Garrard concluded ” another of my head coaches Cameron Mawer took our Elite 18s across to Fulham and again he and the players have delivered a fine performance and win. We now have a set of boys at u/18’s who we regard highly as a group and believe with the structure and guidance of the club, that they can develop into fine players if they continue to work hard and listen”.
Wood now await the Draw for the National Cup and will hope that their fine form of late can continue..
