Solihull Moors 2 – 0 Boreham Wood

ARMCO Arena, Vanarama National League

UNBEATEN RUN COMES TO AN END

On a disappointing afternoon in the West Midlands, Boreham Wood’s fourteen match unbeaten run in the Vanarama National League came to an end after second half goals from Mark Beck and Josh Kelly ensured a comprehensive and well deserved victory for Solihull Moors.

Luke Garrard named an unchallenged line up following Tuesday night’s win against Southend United

First Half

The hosts had very much the better of the first half and it was former Maidenhead United former Josh Kelly who has the game’s first chance, firing just wide from outside the penalty area after six minutes. Three minutes later, Callum Howe volleyed straight at Nathan Ashmore in the Wood goal. On twenty-three minutes, Solihull’s Mark Beck had a shot blocked by George Broadbent and three minutes later, Howe headed wide from a corner. For the rest of the first half, the hosts continued to dominate possession but were denied another chances as the Wood defence stood firm.

Second Half

The second half started in the same vein with the host dominating possession with nothing to show for it. This changed on fifty-four minutes when Moors took a deserved lead. Ashmore made an uncharacteristic mistake by spilling Josh Kelly’s cross, straight into the path of Mark Beck who made no mistake from cross range. On sixty-six minutes Kelly was fouled in the penalty area by Chris Bush, giving referee Jason Richardson no choice but to point to the spot. Kelly stepped up to double Solihull’s lead. Ashmore who produced a penalty save against Southend in midweek, could do nothing about this one.

The outstanding Kelly, who was a real thorn in Boreham Wood’s side all afternoon, nearly added a third goal, seven minutes later. This time he went on a weaving solo run but shot just wide. Boreham Wood were unable to offer anything in response. It wasn’t until the eighty-ninth minutes that they had their first shot on goal when Dennon Lewis fired straight at Ryan Boot in the Moors goal.

It was a disappointing day for Luke Garrard’s men against a very good Solihull Moors side. The squad have given so much during this unbeaten period and will want to get back to winning ways next Saturday against Eastleigh at LVBet Stadium Meadow Park
