Potters Bar Town 0-3 Boreham Wood
The Lantern Stadium
25th July 7:45pm, Pre-Season Friendly
They took a while to get going, but in the end, it was a comfortable night for Luke Garrard’s men at the Lantern Stadium, Potters Bar where they registered their first pre-season victory. Second half goals from Mo Sagaf, Femi Ilesamni and Kwesi Appiah were enough to secure a 3-0 win.
Following a quite opening, the hosts got a penalty on eight minutes when Wilson Chingoka was brought down in the Wood penalty area. Sam Chaney stepped up to take it, but his shot was easily saved by Nathan Ashmore. Buoyed on by that chance, Town looked the more dominant side for most of the first half by putting testing balls into the Boreham Wood box where David Agbontohoma and Jamal Fyfield had to be at their best to keep the hosts out. In the period before half time, Boreham Wood started to gain a foot hold in the game and went close to scoring on thirty-nine minutes. An excellent pass from Chris Bush picked out Tyrone Marsh on the right. He skipped past Chaney in the Town defence before crossing to Jamal Fyfield who’s headed back to a Tom Whelan who’s shot was well saved by Trialist in the Town goal. Four minutes later, following a mix up on the Potters Bar defence, the ball fell to Kwesi Appiah who’s cross fell to Whelan again, but this time he couldn’t keep his shot down.
HALF TIME: POTTERS BAR TOWN 0-0 BOREHAM WOOD
Wood continued this improved form in the second half and had some goals to show for their endeavours. Mo Sagaf got the ball rolling on forty-eight minutes when he converted Ilesamni’s cross with an expert finish. Six minutes later, it was Ilesamni’s turn to get on the scoresheet. Following some excellent close control, he finished well in the bottom corner of the net. On sixty-three minutes Appiah added a third with a strong header from an excellent Erico Sousa cross. Tyrone Marsh had a chance to extend Boreham Wood’s lead, three minutes later but he headed wide.
It was much better from Boreham Wood on the night. While Potters Bar started the better side, once Boreham Wood started to get a foothold in the game towards the end of the first half, there was no looking back. The win and second half performance will please Luke Garrard. He will want his players to continue this form against an Arsenal XI on Saturday in the final pre-season game.
