EMPHATIC WOOD THRASH MAIDENHEAD

It was an emphatic win for Boreham Wood at LV Bet Stadium, Meadow Park against Alan Devonshire’s Maidenhead United. A brace from Scott Boden and further goals from Jacob Mendy Mendy and Josh Rees ensured Boreham Wood’s sixth win in eight home matches in the Vanarama National League this season.
Wood came out of the blocks quickly and Tyrone Marsh’s header was spilt by goalkeeper James Holden into the path of Will Evans after two minutes, but his effort was cleared off the line. A few minutes later, Maidenhead’s Josh Kelly fired over from a difficult angle. The home side took the lead on eighteen minutes when Scott Boden finished well at the back post when unmarked from a corner. Boreham Wood might have added to their lead four minutes later when following a similar Josh Rees corner and with the Magpies defence at sixes and sevens, Tyrone Marsh shot straight at Holden. However, they made no mistake on twenty-four minutes when an outstanding pass from Marsh picked out Scott Boden who in turn played in Josh Rees who finished with aplomb to double Boreham Wood’s lead. Ten minutes later Boreham Wood keeper Taye Ashby-Hammond saved well from a Nathan Blissett header.
As soon as the second half started, Boreham Wood added a third. A Kane Smith cross picked out Boden who finished emphatically at the far post for his second of the match. On fifty-two minutes Wood should have scored again when another Josh Rees corner there was a goalmouth scramble and Marsh couldn’t quite connect with his shot. Minutes later, Marsh had another chance to score but was denied by Holden in the Maidenhead goal when one on one. The visitors had some rare pressure soon afterwards and forced a succession of corners, but the Wood defence held firm. Boreham Wood then created a good chance on seventy-five minutes when Kane Smith played in Josh Rees who hit a well struck shot into the side netting. Four minutes later Boreham Wood did add a fourth when Jacob Mendy Mendy hit a shot from thirty yards out that took a wicked deflected before beating Holden in the Maidenhead goal. The last ten minutes were uneventful as Boreham Wood looked composed and Maidenhead offered very little in terms of a response.
To think that Boreham Wood lost 4-1 in the same fixture at the end of last season, just shows how far Luke Garrard’s men have come in a few short months. There is no doubt that the impact new signings such as Will Evans, Jacob Mendy Mendy, Josh Rees and Scott Boden continues to be a positive one. Following Kabs untimely exit, Boden has made the centre forward slot his own and his goals and intelligent centre forward play has made him a firm fans favourite at the LV Bet Stadium, Meadow Park.
