MATCH REPORT – KING’S LYNN TOWN (A)

26 October 2021

WOOD REIGN AT KINGS LYNN

King’s Lynn Town 0 – 1 Boreham Wood
Tuesday 26th October 7.45pm
The Walk’s Stadium, Vanarama National League

In an uneventful encounter in Norfolk, a seventh minute goal from Scott Boden was enough to give Boreham Wood a 1-0 win over Kings Lynn Town to maintain their third-place position in the Vanarama National League.

Taye Ashley-Hammond started following his loan signing from Championship side Fulham, replacing the injured Nathan Ashmore in goal. This was the only change to the starting line up from Saturday’s narrow defeat at Chesterfield. Wood started the match on the front foot and took the lead from their first chance. On six minutes, an excellent run and cross from Tyrone Marsh was finished well by Scott Boden who beat Paul Jones in the Linnets goal. Marsh should have doubled their lead eleven minutes later when played in by Boden, but his shot was well saved by Jones. Soon after, Gus Mafuta’s shot from outside the box went over the crossbar. On twenty-seven minutes, a header from Jamal Fyfield to Ashby-Hammond was intercepted by a Kings Lynn forward Malachi Linton who was forced wide and unable to get his shot on target. This was a big let off for Boreham Wood who at that stage looked in control. On thirty-five minutes an excellent cross from Jacob Mendy Mendy created a change for Josh Rees who couldn’t get his shot on target. Just before the break the Linnets will feel they should have equalised. Some excellent approach play from Tyler Denton and Jayden Davis created a chance for Linton who fired over from six yards out.

The home side were much better after the break and the second period was played very much in Boreham Wood’s half despite them not creating much. Jayden Davis had a good chance on fifty-four minutes, but his shot was deflected wide. The introduction of former Wood forward Junior Morias for the host certainly helped up their tempo. Rees and Kane Smith went close for Wood before Denton had a good chance for Kings Lynn on seventy-five minutes. The Linnets always looked threatening, but the Wood defence was able to snuff out any danger. Morias nearly bit the hand that used to feed him, but he couldn’t get his shot on target on eighty-nine minutes.

It was a gritty determined win by Luke Garrard’s men who weren’t at there best but did enough to see off their opponents. The defence were outstanding and Dave Stephens was impressive on his return to the team. It was a game that they would have drawn or lost last season.
