Pre Season Friendly
Boreham Wood 0-0 Luton Town
The Wood ended their penultimate game of pre season with a goal less draw against a very strong Luton Town. Another assured defensive display from the boys showed we have nothing to fear in the coming season and if we can add goals to the side we could be a real threat. Wood more than matched their league two opposition, but just lacked that quality in the final third.
The game started with much of the possession being in the middle of park with the first real attack coming when Ruddock jinked past one before the alert Reynolds tackled to perfection to stop him his tracks.
Wood’s first attack came in the thirteenth minute after a neat period of possession, which saw the ball fall to Montgomery on the edge of the area, his shot though was straight at Tyler in the Hatters goal.
That followed by a Morgan free kick after Walker was fouled. Morgan delivered a sublime ball in which was met by Lacey and headed wide for a Wood corner.
Luton’s best chance of the half came in the 25th Minute when Wall powered past Garrard dinked a ball into Ruddock, who took a touch before putting his effort over.
Two minutes later Russell was forced into his only save of the half, Wall who started on the right drifted over to the left cut inside and tried to put his effort into the top corner but Russell was equal to it palming it away for a corner.
After absorbing some Luton pressure Wood broke down the left with Montgomery, whose pit point ball split the Luton defence and the onrushing Whichelow couldn’t get enough on it to force it past Tyler.
In the centre of the park Ruddock rose above Garrard and won the ball before sending it out to Wall, who cut it back and Garrard in the right position denied Luton with a great block on the line.
Woods best chance came 5 minutes before the break, a great bit of individual skill from Angol who sailed past McNulty, gave him a one on one with Tyler, his shot was well blocked by the veteran stopper, with the rebound also being saved well from Walker.
The second half began with both sides looking to attack, Wall had an effort from 25 yards brilliantly tipped over by Russell which was a near mirror image of his first half chance. Following a pull back by Garrard Wall hit the free kick like a tracer bullet that went narrowly wide.
Allinson made his first change of the evening in the 60th minute. Shakes replacing the impressive Walker whose constant running and effort didn’t go unnoticed.
Rooney played a ball from left to right to Benson whose control was immaculate, after cutting in on his left his effort was hit straight at Russell.
Morgan played the ball from the back to Hill who played the ball out wide to Nunn, Nunn took a touch to control then his cross come shot went narrowly wide.
Luton attacked through Rooney down the left who thought he had played the ball off Hill for a Luton corner, however Ref Lee Marshallsay thought differently giving a goal kick. In frustration Rooney kicked the ball out the stadium which didn’t go down well with the Luton management team. Two minutes later he was replaced by Isaac.
Wall a constant threat for Luton won a corner which Ruddock got a flick on at the near post but Isaac at the back post couldn’t get on the end of it.
Angol who got past Williams laid a ball into the path of Hope on the 18 yard line, his shot was well saved by Tyler low down to his right.
A long ball from McNulty was mis-headed by Hill and fell between Nunn and Isaac with the latter getting there just first drawing Nunn in to commit a foul.
Wood who have defended solidly all pre season once again dealt with a good ball into the box with Hill heading the ball to safety.
The final chance of the game fell to Angol who managed to find his way beyond the solid and assured McNulty, his indecision on weather to head or side foot it past Tyler meant he didn’t really do neither which in the end didn’t trouble Tyler.
