PREVIEW

Tomorrow, we welcome York City to the Mangata Pay UK Stadium. It promises to be an exciting day with the TNT cameras out and a 50% discount for all attending supporters to help with the change in the fixture date. York City is a side we have already faced this season back in September in a 2-2 draw. Lee Ndlovu scored both Wood goals, with Dipo Akinyemi and Quevin Castro scoring for the hosts.

York currently sits in 16th place with six wins, 11 draws, and 9 losses, leaving them on 29 points. The Wood currently sits in 14th and is two points better off. The Wood comes into this game in good league form, having won three in their last five league games. Luke Garrard will be hoping his side can carry that on tomorrow afternoon.

FORM GUIDE

York City – L-D-D-D-W

York City is currently 6 league games unbeaten, having registered two wins and four draws. However, in between these league fixtures, they have lost twice in cup competitions, losing 1-0 at home to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup. In their following game, they lost to Nantwich Town in the FA Trophy. Following their FA Trophy exit, the Minstermen traveled to Rochdale and were held to a 0-0 draw. From there, they welcomed Ebbsfleet United, and after an early goal from John-Lewis, the Ebbsfleet United goalkeeper Mark Cousins scored a last-minute equalizer. On Boxing Day, York City traveled to Gateshead and once again came away with a 1-1 draw, registering their third draw in a row. However, on New Year’s Day, they were able to beat Gateshead in a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Will Davies and Dipo Akinyemi.

ONES TO WATCH

Dipo Akinyemi:

During the recent summer transfer window, Akinyemi made a move to York City FC from Ayr United for an undisclosed fee. The 26-year-old forward had previously concluded the last season as the top scorer and Player of the Year in the Scottish Championship, registering 24 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances. Akinyemi had also demonstrated his goal-scoring abilities earlier in the National League South while playing for Welling United. He began his career at Stevenage and had several spells on loan in non-league leagues such as Aldershot Town and Dulwich Hamlet. In the ongoing season, Akinyemi has emerged as York City’s leading scorer in the league, recording 9 goals in the initial 25 games.
