MATCH PREVIEW: YORK CITY (A)

8 September 2023

York City v Boreham Wood
Saturday 9 September 2023, 3.00pm

LNER Community Stadium, Vanarama National League

PREVIEW

Tomorrow, we travel up north to face York City who have recently appointed Neil Ardley as their manager after the departure of Michael Morton.

The Minstermen have struggled so far after a busy summer of recruiting, they currently sit 23rd in the Vanarama National League with only Southend Utd below them as they still seek their first league win of the campaign.

The Wood are on the back of a derby day defeat at the hands of Barnet and are currently struggling with many injuries within the squad, this was further worsened on Saturday when both Jamal Fyfield and Kwesi Appiah were both forced off with injuries.

The Wood are now five games without a win and will be looking to bounce back in the Yorkshire sun tomorrow afternoon.

FORM GUIDE

Boreham Wood- L-D-D-L-L

Last Saturday saw us take on rivals Barnet with an injury depleted squad, with only four players named on the bench. Including new signings Billy Sass-Davies and Regan Griffiths both involved after signing the day prior. After a strong first half and going into the break level, Barnet eventually found a Winner from a header by Oluwo on the 77th minute.

York City – D-D-D-L-L

York have had a disappointing start to their league campaign after a summer of heavy recruiting they are yet to pick up a win. They are on the back of three draws and two losses in their last five games.

On the 28th August they played Rochdale at home, after going into the break level at 1-1, the second half took a bad turn for the Yorkshire side after receiving a red card and conceding two second half goals. The referee blew for full time meaning Rochdale came away as 3-1 winners. This would be Michael Morton’s final game in charge.

They then travelled to Ebbsfleet looking to bounce back, however they were beaten 4-1 in a comprehensive victory by the newly promoted side.

Since then they have appointed Neal Ardley who will be looking for a strong reaction in his first game in charge,

PLAYED FOR BOTH?

Jamal Fyfield spent four years at York City and made over 80 appearances for the Minstermen scoring on three occasions. Out of those 80 appearances, 34 of those took place in League Two. The experienced centre back left in 2014 and signed for the Wood in 2018.

Since then, Fyfield has been a key figure in the Wood’s backline. He has now made over 190 appearances and scored 15 goals. Including one against York City last season in a 1-1 draw at Meadow Park. He has picked up a number of awards including Manager’s player of the year in 2021/22 season.

HAVEN’T WE MET BEFORE?
