It’s been a fairly mixed start to the season for Worthing, which has consisted of 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss.

The Rebels kicked off the season in style, winning 4-3 away at Weston Super Mare in one of the most exciting games so far this season. Worthing were trailing 3-0 at half time, but with a couple of braces from Jack Spong and Danny Cashman, including a 96th minute penalty, the visitors took all 3 points.

Chris Agutters men then travelled to Hertfordshire to face St Albans City, in an evenly matched game which ended all square at 2-2. Worthing faced Hemel Hempstead next, conceding in the 31st minute. But Jack Spong found the back of the net deep into injury time to salvage a 1-1 draw.

The Rebels then travelled to Truro, a day to forget as they lost 5-0. Then, to add insult to injury, Worthing were down to 10 men with minutes to play as Alfie Young was sent off. Finally, Worthing got back to winning ways away at Hampton & Richmond, with Glen Rea sealing the win for the visitors, but the player was also sent off later in the game.

ONE TO WATCH:

Jack Spong:

Spong’s had a prolific start to the 24/25 campaign scoring 4 goals in 5 matches. The 22 year old joined Worthing in February 2024, contributing 3 goals and 4 assists to help The Rebels reach the National League South Play Off final, which they ultimately lost to Braintree Town. The midfielder has shown he can create and score goals from central midfield, making him one of Worthings most valuable players.
