MATCH PREVIEW: WHITEHAWK VS BOREHAM WOOD

4 February 2015

by John Mead.

If Wood are to maintain their promotion aspirations this season, their form against the top sides needs to improve. This Saturday gives Ian and the boys ample opportunity to redress the balance.

Having taken just five points from six games against the other five sides who make up the top six at present, Whitehawk, who currently occupy fifth spot need to be tested.

We have yet to meet this seasons restructured side, who have spent big after avoiding relegation during their first year at this level last campaign.

They now boast a squad full of household names at our level and beyond. Osei Sankofa, a former Wood player joined the campaign from Woking, with Paul Lorriane, a player on everybody’s shopping list making the move from Ebbsfleet United. In midfield the capture of Sergio Torres from Crawley Town was an eye opener, whilst Christian Nanetti has recently joined on loan from Dover Athletic.

Current top scorer Jake Robinson scored one of the two penalties that resulted in out 1-3 defeat at Meadow Park last season, a game that swung in the favour of the visitors after the ridiculous sending off of Sam Cox in the first half. Robinson joined The Hawks from Northampton Town and has 16 goals in all competitions so far this season.

Our first ever trip to East Brighton last season was a more memorable occasion, winning 0-2 in atrocious playing conditions. However it is the Hawks home form this season that has led to them challenging for a play-off place. They are currently unbeaten in nine in all competitions at The Enclosed Ground.

Minibuses are available from the Club and fans are urged to make the journey to cheer on Ian and the boys as we look to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing result. Should you wish to reserve a space on the minibus then please contact Grant Morris on grant.bwfc@outlook.com. The cost is just £10.00 return.

We then travel to Farnborough 48 hours later, making this weekend an extremely important time for the Club. Please get behind Ian and the boys!

Whitehawk v Boreham Wood, Saturday February 7th, kick off 3pm.

The Enclosed Ground, East Brighton Park, Wilsons Avenue, Brighton. BN2 5TS.
