Match preview: Weymouth (A)

14 March 2025

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s men travel to Dorset to face relegation battlers, Weymouth in the Vanarama National League South, kicking off at 15:00.

Last Season for the Terras

Although the Terras had a strong start to their Vanarama National League South campaign, they couldn’t maintain their fine form and finished 15th. As their form declined towards the end of the season, manager Bobby Wilkinson was replaced by Mark Molesley, who was unable to turn their fortunes around.

Form Guide

Although the Terras find themselves 13 points from safety, their form has improved in recent weeks following a four-game unbeaten streak, which ended in their previous fixture against Weston-super-Mare. Within this run, Warren Feeney’s side thrashed relegation rivals Aveley 4-1 and played out draws against Truro, Hornchurch, and St Albans, lifting them off the foot of the table.

In their previous outing, Weymouth suffered their first defeat since February against play-off-chasing Weston-super-Mare at the Bob Lucas Stadium. Although the Seagulls dominated the first half, it took until the 49th minute for Sam Pearson to give them the lead. The Terras failed to put any pressure on the away side, allowing Reuben Reid’s 79th-minute finish to double the Seagulls’ lead and earn them a vital three points in their push for a top-seven-finish.

Last Time We Met

The Wood advanced to the Isuzu FA Trophy Fifth Round with a 2-1 win over the Terras with Matt Rush opening the scoring with a brilliant strike in the 61st minute, before Jon Benton doubled our lead with a powerful effort six minutes from time. Weymouth’s Andy Robinson pulled one back in stoppage time, but it was too late to change the outcome.

The Wood controlled the early play, with Charles Clayden and Jayden Richardson creating several chances and although Weymouth threatened in the second half, multiple quality saves from Nathan Ashmore helped the Wood hold on for the win.

One to Watch

Terras midfielder, Jake McCarthy will be one to watch tomorrow afternoon. After joining from Poole Town in November 2024, the Terras number 14 has scored eight goals so far this season, with three coming in their previous five outings.

The Wood

Luke Garrard’s side made it two wins on the bounce earlier this week, securing a 2-0 win at Farnborough to continue our push for the title. Although we find ourselves fourth in the form guide, trips to Torquay and Truro saw us drop to fifth in the table, with a sizeable gap between us and the table toppers. However, back-to-back wins against Aveley and Farnborough have put us back in the title picture, with only three points now separating us from league leaders, Worthing.

In our previous fixture, at the Saunders Community Stadium, Wood began the game in control, which was rewarded in the 17th minute with a Kwesi Appiah opener. Although the hosts grew into the game, Luke Garrard’s men secured all three points late on with Abdul Abdulmalik’s 89th minute effort from outside the Boro box doubling our lead.
