Match preview: Weymouth (A)

3 January 2025

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s men travel to fellow Vanarama National League South side Weymouth in the Isuzu FA Trophy, kicking off at 15:00.

Last Season for the Terras

Although the Terras had a strong start to the campaign, they could not maintain their fine form and finished 15th in the Vanarama National League South. As their form declined towards the end of the season, manager Bobby Wilkinson was replaced by Mark Molesley, who was unable to turn their fortunes around.

Form Guide

In their last Isuzu FA Trophy fixture, they defeated bitter rivals Yeovil Town 2-1 at Huish Park. A brace from Brandon Goodship was enough to secure the Terras a home fixture against the Wood in the Fourth Round of the Isuzu FA Trophy. Following the derby win, they faced Hemel Hempstead Town in the Vanarama National League South, which ended in a 3-0 defeat for Weymouth after a brace from Brandon Barzy and a goal from Samuel Adenola.

Three draws followed for the Terras. A goalless draw at Chelmsford City preceded a 2-2 home draw against table-toppers Torquay United, with two goals from talisman Goodship earning them a point. Their most recent match was another goalless draw, this time against Salisbury City at The Raymond McEnhill Stadium.

Last Time We Met

It was a convincing victory for the Wood as they came out 3-0 victors. Boreham Wood started confidently, with Charles Clayden hitting the crossbar early on. Weymouth’s Malachi Linton struck the post, but the Wood led through Junior Dixon’s composed finish. Weymouth pushed, with Euan Pollock hitting the post, but missed chances kept them behind. After the break, Tom Whelan’s superb free kick and Dixon’s second goal secured the Wood’s dominant victory. Despite Weymouth’s spirited efforts, they failed to capitalise, while the Wood came close to adding a fourth.

One to Watch

Brandon Goodship has been the Terras’ talisman so far this season. He has had three stints at the club, ending his first spell with an impressive 77 goals in 97 appearances. In his last eight games for Weymouth across all competitions, he has scored five goals, with four of them coming in the Isuzu FA Trophy.

The Wood

Luke Garrard’s men head into the Isuzu FA Trophy fixture looking to extend their impressive run of form, as we are currently unbeaten in our last 12 outings across all competitions. Two 3-0 victories against St Albans City and Chesham United at the Mangata Pay UK Stadium Meadow Park were followed by a draw against Tonbridge Angels.

On Boxing Day, we emerged victorious away at Enfield Town, with a brace from Kwesi Appiah securing the Wood all three points. Our most recent fixture was an impressive 5-1 dismantling of Slough Town, featuring a hat-trick from Kwesi Appiah and a debut brace from new signing Matt Rush.
