The Wood get their 2025 underway tomorrow as Luke Garrard’s men welcome Slough Town to the Mangata Pay UK Stadium, with kick-off at 15:00.
Last season for the Rebels
After grabbing 18 wins, playing out 14 draws and suffering 14 losses, the Rebels picked up a total of 68 points in the Vanarama National League South last season. This led to a 10th place finish for player-manager, Scott Davies’ side, ending the campaign just five points off the play-off places. The Berkshire side will no doubt be looking to secure a top seven finish this time round.
Form guide
As a result of picking up one win, playing out three draws and suffering two losses in their previous six league outings, Slough Town find themselves 16th in the form guide. The first of the six came late last month as the Rebels welcomed Welling United to Arbour Park, but after going down to 10 men, they suffered a narrow 2-3 defeat. Afterwards, the Rebels would bounce back with a 0-3 win away to Chippenham.
However, any confidence gained from their win over the Bluebirds would’ve knocked after a 3-1 defeat away to Chelmsford City. Three consecutive 1-1 draws would follow for Scott Davies’ men, the first coming at home to Salisbury, the second away to Hampton and the third coming back at Arbour Park against Chesham United.
Last time we met
Our last meeting with the Rebels came in a 2018 pre-season friendly, but it would be one to forget for Luke Garrard’s men as we suffered a 3-0 defeat at Arbour Park. All three goals came in the first half, with Ben Harris, Sam Togwell, and Chris Flood finding the net for the hosts.
One to watch
23-year-old Leon Parillon has been a key player for the Rebels so far this campaign. The midfielder came through the ranks at Oxford United and has represented a number of sides on loan, including a previous spell with the Rebels and a period playing alongside current manager, Scott Davies whilst at Biggleswade. The midfielder has netted four times so far this season and has grown into his midfield role at Arbour Park, making over 70 appearances for the club since joining in July of 2023.
The Wood
Luke Garrard’s side will no doubt be looking to start their 2025 as they finished 2024, aiming to continue their current run of form. We are unbeaten in our previous 11 outings in all competitions, picking up an impressive nine wins in the process.
Our previous two outings came in the Vanarama National League South, the first seeing us welcome Tonbridge Angels to the Mangata Pay UK Stadium. Lee Ndlovu levelled the scoring shortly after the Angels took the lead, but we couldn’t find a winner and the points were ultimately shared. However, Luke Garrard’s men would end the year on a high with a 0-2 Boxing Day win away to Enfield Town.
