Team News

Luke Garrard has no fresh injuries to contend with.

Danny Woodards returned to the starting line-up for the game against Barnet, while Justin Shaibu recovered from the knock he received against Braintree Town.

Form Guide

The Wood won last time out, beating local rivals Barnet in emphatic fashion, with a 1-0 win at Meadow Park.

With the game heading for a goalless draw, Bradley Ash netted an 88th minute winner, to seal a historic victory.

Garrard will be keen to add to his Christmas points tally against Maidstone United, so soon after the win over Barnet.

The result also saw Ryan Huddart claim another clean sheet, with the Wood’s back five all putting in superb performances.

The result lifted them up to 11th place in the National League, on 36-points, with one game left to play in 2018.

Currently without a permanent manager, Maidstone United lie 23rd in the National League table, on 19-points.

30-year-old Harry Wheeler was recently sacked, after less than four months in charge of the club. Tristan Lewis and Simon Walton will be in caretaker charge for Saturday’s game.

They have failed to win any of their previous five National League matches, but were however, boosted by their recent FA Trophy victory, over Woking.

One to Watch – Jake Robinson

With former Wood player Blair Turgott ruled out through injury, the goal scoring batten will fall to recent signing Jake Robinson.

The forward joined The Stones for an undisclosed fee from Wheeler’s former club Billericay Town.

The prolific forward joined on the back of a record-breaking 2017/18 season, where he scored 57 goals under the stewardship of now Maidstone manager Wheeler.

He joined with 16 goals to his name already this season, and scored his first goal for Maidstone, in the loss to Dover Athletic on Boxing Day.

From the Dugout – Luke Garrard

“I took over this football club when we were sitting 21st in the league and the main thing for me; was work hard, be collectively strong, and earn the right to win games of football.

“It is not going to be easy, they have had an overhaul of players and I will do my homework, as will Cameron Mawer.

“The players will have (today) off, in order to recuperate, and then they will be back in on Friday, to do their work.

“We are unbeaten currently in December after five games, with three wins and two draws, and that is something that I want to continue going into the New Year.

“These are the sort of games – the Barnet’s, the Maidstone’s, the teams in and around us, in our little mini league at the minute – where we need to focus on putting as many points on the board as possible.

“They come here with an agenda, to get out of the bottom four. They will have an incentive to come here to try and get three points.

“It is for us to match the levels that we did (against Barnet) and if we do that, then I think we are a match for anyone.”
