MATCH PREVIEW: MAIDENHEAD UNITED VS BOREHAM WOOD

10 March 2014

by John Mead.

There was nothing to choose between these two before last Saturday’s fixtures. However our win and The Magpies loss means there are now three points between the two sides who sit side by side in 16th and 17th spot in the League.

That wonderful win double 1-4 at Dorchester Town moved us six points away from the drop zone.

Mention relegation to Johnson Hippolyte the U’s Boss and he just laughs and shrugs his shoulders! In the last two seasons they have survived by just one point, three seasons ago, our first at this level they had a massive four point cushion to celebrate meaning survival at the expense of Lewes, whom joined St Albans City back in Step Three, and have not been seen since!

Our encounters have always been close and earlier this season we threw away an early two goal lead to share the points in a 2-2 draw at Meadow Park. Our record is slightly better given that we have Won 4, Drawn 2 and Lost 1 of our Conference South encounters against The Magpies.

We have a few things in common having both just recorded wins against Tonbridge Angels, with Danny Green netting all four goals for the Berkshire side. He is one of four ex Wood Players in the current Magpies squad, the others being Elvijs Putnins, Curtis Ujah and Reece Tison-Lascaris.

Another player that has featured for both sides is Lee Angol who recently spent a month on loan at York Road, before joining us on a similar deal. Lee has really impressed in his limited game time and is surely knocking on the door for a start soon!

Another thing we share is a better away form than home form this campaign, which may just give us the edge this Tuesday!

The final similarity that springs to mind is new stands! Whilst our superb facility stands proud and ready for next season, the York Road facility has recently closed it’s seated tribune, to be replaced by a modern 500 seat stand.

So stand together and get down to York Road this Tuesday as we look to continue our recent run of results!

Tuesday March 11th, kick off 7.45pm.
York Road, Maidenhead. SL6 1SF.
