PLAYERS TO WATCH

“THE DESTROYER”
LUIS FERNANDEZ

Born in Enfield, Luis Fernandez joined Stevenage at the age of 13 and progressed through the Club’s youth system. He was called up to start in the FA Youth Cup for the under 18’s despite still playing regularly for the under 16 squad and would go on to make his first team debut at the age of 17, putting in what manager Dino Maamria described as a “man of the Match performance” in a 2-1 EFL Cup defeat at home to Southend United. After signing his first professional contract ahead of the 2019/20 season, he would go on to make play eight times in the first team at Broadhall Way, before leaving on loan to Oxford City for the 2020/21 campaign. He made 14 appearances in the National League South before the season was curtailed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, joining King’s Lynn Town the following summer. The 20-year old has played 15 times at the heart of the Linnets’ defence this season.

“THE PLAYMAKER”
MICHAEL CLUNAN

A Norwich City academy graduate, Michael Clunan moved to Histon after a brief stint with Boston United, before late joining Lowestoft Town for the 2014/15 campaign following a season at Bridge Road. He returned to Norfolk when a move to King’s Lynn Town materialised ahead of the 2015/16 season, and he has remained at the Walks Stadium ever since. The 27-year old has been a mainstay in the midfield since he arrived making 42 appearances in his debut season before helping the Linnet’s win the Norfolk Senior Cup in 2016/17, when they overcame Fakenham Town 2–0 in the final. He has been involved in an impressive rise up the non-league during his time at the Club, firing home 14 goals in 2017/18 to help them finish as runners-up in the Southern League Premier Division, going on to lose the in the play-off final to Slough Town. The Club was placed in the Premier Division Central, where they again finished as runners-up with Clunan scoring a further nine times. His efforts weren’t in vain this time as they achieved promotion to the National League North with a 3-2 victory over Warrington Town in the play-off final, and they began their maiden season in the non-league’s second tier like a house on fire. The season was abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic with the Linnets sat second in the league, and resulted in the final standings being decided on a points-per-game basis which subsequently saw them promoted as Champions to the National League. A key part in this rise was Clunan who has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the Club, taking over the club’s captaincy in the process as well.

“THE FINISHER”
MALACHI LINTON

After progressing through the youth teams of Crewe Alexandra, Malachi Linton joined Lowestoft Town in 2019 and proved his pedigree in the non-league, impressing with 13 goals in ten appearances. He earned a move to newly promoted Championship side Wycombe Wanderers, and although he was unable to make an appearance he featured on the bench before enjoying a short spell out on loan at Slough Town. After extending his contract in the summer, he joined King’s Lynn Town on loan.

LAST TIME WE MET

King’s Lynn Town 0-1 Boreham Wood
Tuesday 26th October 2021
The Walks, Vanarama National League

An uneventful encounter saw the Wood run out 1-0 winners in Norfolk. A rapid start saw the visitors open the scoring with their first opportunity, as Tyrone Marsh put a cross on a plate for Scott Boden to tap home after just seven minutes. The two strike partners combined again soon after to create a move that saw Marsh played in on goal, but his effort was saved by Paul Jones in the Linnets goal. King’s Lynn saw their best opportunity of the half go amiss when some miscommunication at the back saw Jamal Fyfield’s header towards debutant Taye Ashby-Hammond get intercepted by Malachi Linton, but the striker was forced too wide to get his shot on target. They would go close on the stroke of half time, as some excellent approach play from Tyler Denton and Jayden Davis created another chance, this time for Otomayo, who fired over from six yards out.

The hosts improved after the break and started to enjoy extended spells of possession. Davis had a good chance on 54 minutes but his shot was deflected wide and the introduction of former Wood forward Junior Morias helped them maintain the pressure, with Denton going close on 75 minutes. Morias fired a powerful effort wide of the target late on before Ashby-Hammond was called into action right at the death to make his first real save in a Wood shirt. A gritty and resolute display was enough to overcome the Linnets, as the Wood bounced back from defeat to Chesterfield to secure the three points.
