THE CONTEXT

Despite what would eventually happen, Boreham Wood made the early running. However, the home side wasn’t able to trouble Ben Hinchliffe in the Stockport goal until the last few minutes, when he saved well from a well struck Gus Mafuta free kick and again in the second minute of the four added on when Hinchliffe produced a fantastic point blank save from a bullet Matt Rhead header.

King’s Lynn Town are a newcomer to the Vanarama National League after being promoted from the National League North in the 2019/20 season. With the pressure of relegation being removed, it is important for Kings Lynn to now get into good form ahead of the 2021/22 season.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
“THE DESTROYER”
ALEX BROWN
Brown came through the junior ranks at Sheffield United and enjoyed a short loan spell at Northern Counties East Side Hallam before signing a permanent deal at Sheffield FC.
The Youngster featured for the England ‘C’ team during the summer of 2018 and later signed for Buxton of the Northern Premier League at the start of the 2018/19 campaign.
The 21-year-old is a player that many National League clubs have shown an interest in and his impressive performance on the big stage for England ‘C’ last June in Estonia was evident of the talent that Brown possesses.
“THE PLAYMAKER”
CAMERON KING
King joined Norwich City’s youth academy at the age of eight years old, where he eventually went on to make his senior debut in 2014, at just 18-years-old, in a League Cup defeat away to Shrewsbury Town.
The 25-year-old then moved on from Norwich in 2015 in search for regular first team football and signed for Thetford Town in the Eastern Counties Premier Division where he scored an impressive 16 goals in 42 appearances.
His inspiring season at Thetford attracted a lot of attention from several clubs in higher divisions but King opted for a move across to Ireland where he signed for Shamrock Rovers in the Irish Premier Division.
After spending just the one season in Ireland, King moved back to Norfolk to sign for the Linnets in 2018 where he had a short but successful time, scoring five times in 11 appearances before signing for FC Halifax Town, where he then went on to spend two years.
King was one of Ian Culverhouse’s many summer signings after their promotion as National League North champions and he re-joined the Club on a two-year deal this off-season.
“THE FINISHER”
DAYLE SOUTHWELL
Dayle joined King’s Lynn Town in January 2020 from Halifax Town F.C. bringing a lot of experience in hitting the back of the net.
A product of Grimsby Town’s Youth system, making his first appearance in the Senior Squad in the 2010/11 season and during the next 3 seasons whilst being in the Grimsby First Team Squad he had a Loan Spell with Harrogate Town. Dayle signed for Boston United in July 2014, scoring 54 goals in two seasons.
Whilst at Boston United, Dayle was their Player of the Year on two occasions, was leading Goalscorer in the National League North Division, and also made an appearance for England “C”. He then moved to Wycombe Wanderers on a 2 season Professional Contract.
In January 2018 Dayle moved to Guisley and in the summer of 2018 he joined Halifax Town. Dayle featured in the last part of season 2019/20 Promotion into the National League.
LAST TIME WE MET
Kings Lynn Town 0-3 Boreham Wood
Tuesday 14th October 2020, 7.45pm
The Walks Stadium, Vanarama National League
On the eve of Luke Garrard’s fifth anniversary as Manager, Boreham Wood celebrated by recording their first win of the season in what was to be honest, a straightforward victory in Norfolk.
A goal from Matt Rhead and two from Kabongo Tshimanga were enough to seal victory in Boreham Wood’s first ever competitive match against Kings Lynn Town. If it wasn’t for some heroic goalkeeping from the Linnet’s Archie Mair, it could have been many more.
Just when it looked like it wasn’t going to be his night, Matt Rhead gave Boreham Wood the lead after 27 minutes when he finished well from another Kane Smith cross to score his first league goal for the Club. A few minutes later, when Tshimanga was in on goal, he was brought down by Archie Mair for a clear penalty which he dispatched with aplomb to give Boreham Wood a 2-0 lead.
Following the half time break, Boreham Wood should have extended their lead but were somehow kept out by some heroic Linnet’s defending following a goalmouth scramble. Tshimanga did extend the Wood lead after 63 minutes when his excellent run and deflected shot went in.
