The Wood host Hornchurch under the lights tomorrow at Meadow Park, with kick-off at 19:45.
Last season for the Urchins
The Urchins impressed many last season as they were crowned champions of the Isthmian Premier Division, finishing on 100 points. Their promotion saw them return to step two of Non-League Football for the first time in 11 years.
Form guide
It’s been a mixed start for Daryl McMahon’s men, kicking off this season with three wins, four draws and five losses in the Vanarama National League South. They are currently winless in their last five matches in all competitions, starting with a FA Cup second qualifying round fixture away to Leiston, which finished 1-1. However, the replay at Hornchurch stadium saw Leiston progress to the next round in a 3-1 victory.
The Urchins then took a trip down to Surrey to face Dorking Wanderers, where the they would fall to another 3-1 defeat. In their next outing, Hornchurch salvaged a point away to Salisbury after trailing 2-1 until the 96th minute, Scott Kashket’s strike giving the Urchins something to take back to Havering. Finally, Daryl McMahon’s side hosted Bath City in a game where neither team managed to break the deadlock. The final scoreline, 0-0.
Last time we met
The last time we faced Hornchurch was in the FA Cup in October of 2015, where the Wood would win 2-1 to progress to the first round proper of the competition. A strike from Mustafa Tiriyaki gave Luke Garrard’s side a 1-0 lead going into half time, and Anthony Jeffrey scored in the last minute of the second half to double the advantage. Hornchurch’s George Purcell did score in stoppage time, but it wasn’t enough as Luke Garrard earned his first win as manager.
One to watch
Liam Nash is the Urchins leading goal scorer so far in the 24/25 campaign. The number 10 has scored four goals so far this season, meaning he could be a threat tomorrow when in and around the Wood’s penalty area.
The Wood
We remain unbeaten in our last five matches in all competitions. Luke Garrard’s men managed to put six past Welling United in an excellent performance at the Mangata Pay UK Stadium, which was then followed by hosting Larkhall Athletic in the FA Cup fourth round qualifying, goals from Junior Dixon and Kwesi Appiah helping us progress with a 2-1 victory.
The Wood then travelled to face Chippenham Town and came away with a 1-0 win through another Appiah goal. Luke Garrard’s men would then reach the first proper round of the FA Cup after a 4-0 win at home to Carshalton Athletic. Finally, on Saturday, we were back on the road but would ultimately be held to a 0-0 draw by Weston-super-Mare.
