Hampton & Richmond: D-W-L-L-W

It wasn’t the ideal start to the season for Hampton & Richmond, with a 3-1 loss on the opening day to Hornchurch. The following 2 matches would end all square, with a couple of away games at Chelmsford City and Maidstone United, finishing 1-1 and 0-0 respectively.

The Beavers managed their first win of the season on match day 4 facing Salisbury at home. The hosts left it late to open the scoring, but Alex Wall’s strike in the 80th minute was enough to secure their first 3 points of the season.

A trip to Somerset was next for Alan Julians side to face Bath City, who were looking to build momentum on their first win of the season. However, the visitors were unlucky as they gave away a penalty in the 29th minute, which Bath’s Scott Wilson managed to convert.

Returning to the Beveree Stadium, Alan Julians men suffered a 3-2 loss to Worthing in a game with many twists and turns. The Beavers took the lead in the first 20 minutes through a strike from Kristian Campbell. The visitors equalised 6 minutes later and eventually took the lead a few minutes after half time. Babajide’s strike drew the hosts level, but their momentum was cut off by Glen Rea’s eventual winner 3 minutes later.

Finally, Hampton & Richmond got back to winning ways away at bottom of the table Weymouth with a 1-0 win, after a Corey Jordan own goal secured all 3 points for The Beavers.

ONE TO WATCH:

James Roberts

The 28 year old has already opened his scoring for the season, in their opening day 3-1 loss to Hornchurch. Arriving from Havant & Waterlooville in the summer, Roberts managed to convert 7 goals last season in the National League South, and 14 goals in the previous season. The number 9 certainly poses a threat to the opposition, and won’t be afraid to take his chances when in on goal.
