Match preview: Farnborough (H)

5 November 2024

Luke Garrard’s men host Farnborough under the lights tomorrow evening in the Vanarama National League South, with kick-off at 19:45.

Last season for Boro

Spencer Day’s side finished last season’s campaign in eighth place, only one point off reaching the Vanarama National League South Play Offs. They have clearly continued that form going into this season.

Form guide

Farnborough are currently fourth in the National League South, and come into tomorrow’s match having won two, drawn two and lost one in their last five. Their two wins came against Enfield Town, where they won 4-1 at home, and then in a 2-1 win away to Essex side, Chelmsford City. Next up, Spencer Day’s side hosted Truro City, where an early goal from the away side was cancelled out by Taylor Clark in the late stages of the game. It finished 1-1.

Weymouth was next for Boro. After the long trip down to Dorset, it finished all square at 1-1 as a goal in the last ten minutes salvaged a point for the Terras. Most recently, returning to the Saunders Transport Community Stadium, Farnborough hosted Dorking Wanderers in an end-to-end game of football which ended 4-3 to the visitors.

Last time we met

We haven’t played Farnborough since the 2014/15 season, where we won 3-0 away to the side from Hampshire. Our win came through three second-half goals from Graeme Montgomery, Junior Augustas and Lee Angol.

One to watch

Millar-Matthews Lewis has been in excellent form as of late for the Yellows. The 19-year-old has scored seven goals in Farnborough’s last ten league games, making him one of our opponents’ most dangerous threats.

The Wood

Luke Garrard’s men haven’t won since the FA Cup fourth round qualifier against Carshalton Athletic, which ended 4-0. Following that game were a couple of draws, from a trip to Weston-super-Mare, finishing 0-0, and a 1-1 draw to Hornchurch at home.

We then travelled to the south coast to face Eastbourne Borough, where we took the lead in the first half, however two second-half Eastbourne goals earned the Sports all three points. Finally, on Sunday, we hosted League One side Leyton Orient in a game where we were 2-0 down early in the second-half but managed to take the game to extra time and then penalties, where unfortunately we faced defeat.
