THE CONTEXT
This Saturday, Wood host Eastleigh as they look to bounce back from a couple of winless games at Maidenhead United and Torquay United and begin building momentum ahead of their highly anticipated Emirates FA Cup 4th Round tie with Everton next week.
The Spitfires will be disappointed by their recent run of form which has seen them winless in ten in all competitions, seeing them drop to 14th in the Vanarama National League table.
Wood fell to a second consecutive winless game for the first time this season after drawing with Torquay United and will be keen to avoid being cut adrift from those above them.

ANDREW BOYCE
A lower league veteran, Doncaster-born Andrew Boyce began his career with his hometown club Doncaster Rovers, being offered professional terms in 2008. He was released in January 2009 having never played a senior appearance and had a brief spell at King’s Lynn, before signing for Gainsborough Trinity with whom he helped reach the Conference North play-off final in 2011/12. Boyce would earn a move back to the Football League, with spells at Lincoln City, Scunthorpe United, Grimsby Town, Hartlepool United and Notts County. He returned to Grimsby briefly on a permanent basis before joining Eastleigh, making over 100 appearances for the Spitfires.

JAKE HESKETH
A product of the Southampton youth academy, Jake Hesketh came through at St Mary’s in 2014 and made his Premier League debut under Ronald Koeman as a substitute for Dusan Tadic, before making his first start less than a week later. He would feature primarily for the youth team and helped the Under-21’s lift the 2015 Premier League Cup. Loan spells to Burton Albion, MK Dons, Lincoln City and Crawley Town saw him attempt to gain valuable experience, before departing Southampton after 17 years at the club with the expiry of his contract and joining Eastleigh in the summer.

BRETT PITMAN
Born in Jersey, Brett Pitman began his career at local sides First Tower United and St Paul’s, where he caught the eye of AFC Bournemouth after impressing against them for the Island’s Under-18 side. He made his senior debut for the Cherries in 2005 and would go on to make nearly 300 appearances over two separate spells, the second coming after a stint at Bristol City. Following Bournemouth’s promotion to the Premier League, Pitman enjoyed spells at Ipswich Town, Portsmouth, Swindon Town and Bristol Rovers, before dropping into the Non-League at the age of 34 to join Eastleigh on loan.

Wood’s win over Barnet kick-started their superb FA Cup run, with Eastleigh the next team to fall at the hands of a Scott Boden brace. It was the visitors who had the bulk of the early chances, but Boden was in the right place at the right time to tap home the opener from Kane Smith’s driven cross on the stoke of half time, before notching his second on the hour-mark from close range. Opportunities would dry up as the Wood remained resilient, and although Boden’s hat-trick was wiped out for offside, his first two was enough to secure the Wood’s name in the hat for Round two.
