MATCH PREVIEW: CHESHAM UNITED (A)

16 August 2024

Chesham United vs Boreham Wood // The Meadow // Saturday 17th August 2024 // 15:00 KO

After a 1-0 win at home to Bath City on the opening day of the season in which Tyrone Marsh grabbed the winner in a well-worked team goal, Ross Jenkins’ Wood side turn their attention to tomorrow afternoon as we make the short trip round the M25 to the Meadow, home of newly-promoted Chesham United. Come and get behind the lads as they aim to build on a winning start to our 2024/25 Vanarama National League South campaign, Wood Army!

Our opponents from neighbouring Buckinghamshire had a historic 2023/24 campaign as the Generals won promotion to the Vanarama National League South as Southern League Premier South champions. James Duncan’s side will no doubt be hopeful of retaining their place in the division and will be looking to pick up a result in front of a home crowd for the first time this season tomorrow.

FORM GUIDE // ALL COMPS

Chesham United: W-W-W-L-D

After a 2-0 loss at home to Barnet in their 3rd pre-season outing, Chesham United would bounce back with a 2-0 victory away to Isthmian League South Central side, Chertsey Town thanks to goals from Nathan Minhas and Avan Jones. 2 more wins would follow for James Duncan’s side, one coming on the road as the Generals travelled to Hungerford Town and came away from Berkshire with a 3-1 win, the other coming back home at the Meadow with a 2-1 win over Watford’s under-21s.

However, in their final pre-season game, James Duncan’s Generals would suffer a narrow, 2-1 defeat at home to Vanarama National League North side, Brackley Town. Then came the league opener on Saturday and it wouldn’t be the winning start Chesham United would have hoped for with James Duncan’s side coming from behind to hold Eastbourne Borough to a 1-1 draw. Hungry for a win, the Generals will be looking to pick up 3 points at the Meadow tomorrow afternoon.

ONE TO WATCH:

Nathan Minhas:

26-year-old Nathan Minhas joined the Generals this summer after playing in the division with Slough Town last season, a campaign in which the striker hit the back of the net 14 times. The number 9 is off to a positive start to life in claret and blue, having already bagged 4 goals for James Duncan’s side, 1 of which being the equaliser against Eastbourne Borough on the opening day after coming off the bench. Minhas will likely be a key consideration for Ross Jenkins in his sides preparations for tomorrow afternoon.
