Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s men host Chelmsford City in the Vanarama National League South, kicking off at 15:00.
Last season for the Clarets
Chelmsford City finished runners-up in the Vanarama National League South last season, with a record of 24 wins, 12 draws, and 10 losses. Although the Clarets entered the playoffs in great form and with home advantage, they couldn’t progress past the first game, losing 3-2 at home to eventual winners Braintree Town.
Form Guide
After a slow start to this season, the Clarets have hit strong form in recent weeks, rising to ninth in the Vanarama National League South and second in the form table over the past four games. Their recent run includes three wins and a draw, with two victories coming against fellow top-half teams.
Their most recent win was an impressive 3-2 victory at the Melbourne Stadium against promotion-chasing Torquay United. The Clarets found themselves two goals down at half-time after a Cody Cooke penalty and Matt Jay’s first goal for the Gulls. However, an incredible second half saw the Essex-based side complete a comeback. Jordan Greenidge converted from the spot in the 59th minute to set up a late turnaround. Greenidge completed his brace in the 89th minute before Charlie Ruff sealed the win in the second minute of injury time, securing all three points.
Last Time We Met
The Wood staged a stunning second-half comeback to beat Chelmsford City 3-2, securing their second away win in three days. Trailing 2-0 at half-time after goals from Duff and Crichlow, they responded brilliantly after the break. Jayden Richardson’s solo effort ignited the fightback before substitutes Lee Ndlovu and Abdul Abdulmalik made the difference. Ndlovu headed in the equaliser before volleying home Abdulmalik’s cross late on to complete the turnaround. The Wood’s resilience and attacking intent sealed a dramatic victory.
One to Watch
The Wood will be hoping to keep Charlie Ruff quiet tomorrow evening, as he has been a constant threat for the Clarets over the past two seasons. The attacking midfielder has continued his impressive form from last season, contributing 15 goal involvements in all competitions this term.
The Wood
Luke Garrard will be looking for his side to build on their recent positive results. After struggling for form since late January, the Wood have now won back-to-back games for the first time since the 21st of January.
The first of these wins came at home against fellow title rivals Eastbourne Borough. A three-goal flurry in five minutes secured an important victory against another promotion contender. To complete the back-to-back wins, the Wood travelled to local rivals St Albans City, earning a decisive 3-1 victory at Clarence Park. Goals from O’Connell, Appiah, and Rush secured the bragging rights for Luke Garrard’s men.
