Canvey Island vs. Boreham Wood Monday 30th November 2020, 7.45pm Park Lane, Emirates FA Cup 2nd Round
THE CONTEXT
On Monday night, Wood face Isthmian North side Canvey Island in the 2nd Round of the Emirates FA Cup at Park Lane.
The Gulls’ last competitive fixture came in the 1st Round of the Emirates FA Cup where they won 2-1 on the road against Banbury United.
Whereas Wood disappointingly lost against National League newcomers Altrincham at Meadow Park in their recent fixture nine days ago.
Unfortunately, this fixture will be held behind closed doors, however you can watch the game on BT Sport 1 with coverage starting from 7pm.
THE FORM GUIDE
THE WOOD
Previous six games (in all competitions): –
Altrincham (H) | VNL | 0-1L
Bromley (A) | VNL | 1-1 D Torquay United (A) | VNL | 1-1 D Dagenham & Redbridge (H) | VNL |0-1 L Southend United (H) | FAC1R | 3-3 (4-3 after penalty shootout) W Woking (H) | VNL | 1-0 W
Wood matched up against Altrincham for the first time in five seasons in our most recent game last Saturday, where we unfortunately lost 1-0.
Jamie McDonald’s 87th minute winner for the Robins is just the second home goal that Luke Garrard’s side have conceded in the league this season, the other coming from a 1-0 defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge.
Wood failed to create any clear cut chances throughout the course of the game, which came back to hurt us when the Robins took one of their rare chances of the game which meant they would leave Meadow Park with all three points.
Garrard was not happy in the manner that the goal was conceded with multiple errors in the lead up, leaving McDonald with the simple task of passing into an empty net.
THE GULLS
Previous six games (in all competitions): –
Banbury United (A) | FAC1R | 1-2 W
Basildon United (A) | IDN | 3-3 D
Cray Wanderers (H) | FAC4QR | 3-2 W
Bedfont Sports (A) | FAC3QR | 0-2 W
Brentwood (A) | IDN | 1-1 D
Maldon & Tiptree (H) | IDN | 0-1 L
It has been a difficult start to the 2020/21 league campaign for the Gulls as they have won just one of their opening five league games, sitting 15th in the Isthmian Division North.
Despite the tough League start, the Gulls have enjoyed an amazing FA Cup run and are the joint lowest ranked side left in the Emirates FA Cup alongside Marine. Mark Bentley will be hoping he can spur his side on to reach the 3rd Round of the competition for only the second time in their club’s history.
