MATCH PREVIEW: BOREHAM WOOD VS WHITEHAWK

Six Pointer Up For Grabs As Hawks Swoop On Meadow Park.

Boreham Wood v Whitehawk Match Preview,

by John Mead.

Undoubtably the Vanarama Conference South tie of the day takes part at Meadow Park this coming Saturday when Steve King’s Whitehawk provide the opposition. It is second versus fourth with The Hawks five points adrift of Wood with a game in hand.

Whitehawk who hail from East Brighton have enjoyed a meteoric rise through the Leagues, given that they were playing Sussex County League football just five seasons ago. Realising their potential they appointed Steve King formerly of Macclesfield Town in February 2014 to guide an expensive yet thoughtfully assembled squad into the play off places.
King has a rich pedigree when it comes to steering sides through the upper reaches of Non League football. Firstly he took Lewes from the Isthmian League South into the Conference National in five short years. He followed that up with getting Farnborough out of the Southern League Premier as Champions in his first year in charge, before losing out to a second successive promotion via a play off final defeat.

His current charges feature amongst others Sergio Torres signed from Crawley Town, who our own Gaffer rates as “ The best player in this Division” outside his own squad of course!

Since Christmas we have failed to take a point when faced with top five opposition, which is something Ian is mindful of. “ We know it will be a very tough game against one of the best sides we have seen this season. That said we simply did not turn up at their place and they did a superb job in making us look poor. We need to be strong and positive in a game that could seriously shape the fate of both sides come the end of April. We are one point off the top spot and we know that Bromley have games in hand, but this tie is all about us and how we perform on the day.”

Whitehawk’s sole aim this season is promotion yet they too have a County Cup Final to look forward to at the superb Amex Stadium, beating Burgess Hill Town in the semi final, who are currently still unbeaten after 34 league matches at the top of the Ryman League South.
In the League they have taken thirteen points from their last five games, including their comfortable 3-0 victory against us in the sequence.

It does not get any more important than this and The Wood Army are hoping for a swelling in numbers to try and out sing what was the most vocal support we have encountered thus far on our travels this campaign!

Come On You Wood!
