MATCH PREVIEW: BOREHAM WOOD VS STAINES TOWN

10 December 2014

Last Cheer Before Christmas!

This Saturday gives Wood fans the last chance to see their side in action at home before Christmas.

Staines will arrive at Meadow Park as the first side this season looking to do the double over Wood. Our visit to Wheatsheaf Park back in August led to a 1-2 defeat after going two down inside the first four minutes. We missed numerous chances to come away with at least a point on the afternoon. That victory, one of three in August set up The Swans for a seventh place in the table after the first month of matches.

Town had to wait until November for their next victory against Bishops Stortford, before like ourselves going out of the F A Trophy at the first hurdle.
However Marcus Gayle will bring the positives of seeing his side score three times on the road in their replay against Southern League Premier table toppers Poole Town, before losing out on penalties.

That was prior to a controversial trip to Ruislip last Saturday, when refereeing decision made all the headlines. The result, a narrow 1-0 for Wealdstone, saw the home side hanging on to the three points against just nine men, with Gayle incensed by the afternoon’s proceedings.

His week did not get any better with a 5-1 defeat at Hemel Hempstead on Tuesday, a game that featured another sending off for The Swans. That result sent our visitors to the foot of the table, swapping places with Weston Super Mare who edged a seven goal thriller the same night against Farnborough.

Meanwhile with Bromley coming back from two goals down to win 3-2 and Gosport Borough also posting a 1-0 victory the pressure cooker keeps on boiling at the top of the table.

Ian and the boys will of course be looking to atone for our earlier defeat, but will be well aware that we have failed to win our last twelve League matches against The Swans. For the record it will be eight years and eleven days since a Wood side, then managed by Steve Cook, took maximum points from this tie!

It promises to be another exciting afternoon at Meadow Park, so make it a date and get your Christmas shopping done in the Club Shop prior to kick off, before cheering the lads on to hopefully another important three points!

Come On You Wood!

Saturday December 13th, Boreham Wood v Staines Town, kick off 3pm.
