MATCH PREVIEW: BOREHAM WOOD VS FARNBOROUGH

5 August 2014

By John Mead.

Meadow Park is ready and raring to go this campaign, with Spencer Day’s Farnborough the first visitors to sample our magnificent new West Stand.

It will be a different feel to last season for Hampshire side who were initially sidelined by the League, until given clearance to proceed with their campaign.

They did a pretty good job, having to catch up five fixtures on the other sides before finishing in 16th spot, three points and three places below us. It was a poor start to the season that did for us last campaign. Losing three key defenders we managed just four points from our first six games, meaning Boro were just one point behind us with five games in hand after their their inaugural fixture on September 7th, a 1-0 win against promoted Dover Athletic!

There should be no excuses this time out, with no real fitness concerns, ahead of the weekends fixture.

The squad is not yet complete though with a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes this week leading up to Saturday. ” We should have some good news in the player front in the next couple of days We are still looking at options up front and will hopefully bring one in before Saturday. Also in other areas if a player becomes available that will make us better then I will be speaking to The Chairman, “ concluded Allinson.

Goals have been at a premium during pre season, but given the standard of opposition the players have faced results have been extremely encouraging, especially from a defensive point of view.

Farnborough have just added two more to their squad in the shape of wingers Declan McAvoy, formerly of Hamilton Academicals and Dan Bennett who returns for his second spell with the club. With more additions promised before the trip to Meadow Park, both sides will be keen to get off to the perfect start.

Arsenal season ticket holders are reminded that a half price admission offer exists for all of our Vanarama Conference South home fixture this season!

Saturday August 9th, home to Farnborough, kick off 3pm.
