MATCH PREVIEW: BOREHAM WOOD VS CHELMSFORD CITY

11 September 2014

by John Mead.

The Clarets are in town this Saturday in what promises to be a thriller if last season is anything to go by. Those of you who saw those two games will be expecting goals, goals and more goals!
A thrilling 4-3 victory for us at home followed on from our 0-6 win on the road at Melbourne Park, although the latter was under previous management.

Current Manager Mark Hawkes has steadied the ship somewhat since November and the step up to Vanarama South football from Heybridge Swifts. He has recently strengthened bringing Yado Mambo in from Dover Athletic to sure up the defence. Mambo has experience at a much higher level having played for Shrewsbury Town in Division One, AFC Wimbledon in Division Two and Ebbsfleet United in the Conference Premier.

Another recent addition will be well known to Wood fans in the shape of Nicky Nicolau. He returns for a second spell with the Essex club. Leaving Wood in 2011 after making 15 appearances he went on to enjoy a successful spell in the Conference Premier with Lincoln City.

Ian Allinson will be mindful of City’s recently improved form, especially on the road. Wins at Bishops Stortford and more recently Bromley on Non League Day means the side have seven points from eight games, after collecting just two points from their first four games.

After speaking to The Gaffer about our quite brilliant start to the season, which sees us hold top spot after eight matches, he is looking for three things this Saturday, “ We need to be consistent and put a run together after all of our hard work against the two Boroughs, Gosport and Eastbourne. Chelmsford are always a handful and we will need to be at our best. Asides from consistency we need that atmosphere inside the stadium like we had on Monday night. We need more fans coming down to watch us and getting behind the lads, they really appreciate it.”

Ian’s third wish is for rain, which takes some explaining! . “ Looking at our results you can see a pattern emerging. We produce the goods when the pitch has a bit of zip in it. Under floodlights with the evening dew we have been superb and we did really well in the monsoon down at Sutton too!”

So heres hoping for a bumper crowd, a few showers and another three points this Saturday!

Boreham Wood v Chelmsford City, Saturday September 13th, kick off 3pm.
