MATCH PREVIEW: BOREHAM WOOD VS BRENTFORD XI

22 July 2024

After a tough clash against Isthmian League Premier Division side, Billericay Town, Ross Jenkins’ men now turn their attention immediately to an evening tie against a strong Brentford XI. Having run out eventual 2-1 winners against Billericay, thanks to goals from Mo Sagaf and a second half winner from substitute Charles Clayden, the Wood will be eager to make it 2 wins from 2 and build on a largely positive display on Saturday afternoon.

Last season, Brentford ended their Premier League campaign in 16th position, comfortably away from the relegation places on 39 points. Over those 38 games last season, the Bees won 10 games, drew 9 and lost 19. This campaign they will surely hope to move up the table and again threaten the top half.

The man in the dugout for the West London outfit will be Brentford B team manager, Neil MacFarlane, born on October 10, 1977. A Scottish football coach and former professional player, Macfarlane joined Brentford in 2019 as Brentford B team head coach. During his playing career, he was a defensive midfielder and played for various clubs across all four levels of the Scottish league system. After retiring in 2011, MacFarlane transitioned into coaching and took on his first managerial role at English side, Kidderminster Harriers in 2018.

Last season, he was Brentford B’s top scorer with 9 goals in all competitions. He will likely be a chief concern for Ross Jenkin’s men come tomorrow evening.
