MATCH PREVIEW: BOREHAM WOOD VS BATH CITY

28 August 2014

A surprisingly poor start to the season has left our visitors bottom of the table after four matches. City have never finished lower than 11th in the Conference South. That was two seasons ago , with last years fine campaign seeing them finish 7th , showing signs of being a side equipped to challenge for a return to The Conference Premier, where they spent two seasons prior to that.

However, things have not gone their way so far, losing 3-0 at Concord Rangers before offering the home fans no cheer in the following three games. They recorded a 0-4 defeat at the hands of Basingstoke Town, before a goal less draw with Chelmsford City. Bank Holiday Monday was another to forget, especially for City shot stopper Jason Mellor. He collided with a defender outside his area gifting Havant and Waterlooville an early lead, before being beaten by his opposite number Ryan Young who sent a massive clearance down field that bounced once before leaving Mellor red faced. The game finished 2-1 to The Hawks.

City signed a trio of players from Weston Super Mare for the new season in the shape of defender Martin Slocombe, midfielder Ashley Kington and striker Chas Hemmings. Also arriving at Twerton Park is Frankie Artus, a 25 year old midfielder who played thirty five times for Hereford United last season.

Wood will be looking to build upon their fine start to the campaign, against a side that Wood Boss Ian Allinson tipped for the play offs. “ Bath City have a huge catchment area of players to choose from at our level. Dorchester Town got relegated and Weston Super Mare have changed their management structure. We have had a tough start with some difficult ties, but have come out of it with ten points from fifteen. We will need to be at out best on Saturday to keep the momentum going against a talented side that will be keen to get their season back on track.”

Both Lee Angol and Graeme Montgomery have found the net four times in five games and are in a rich vein of form for The Wood.
