Boreham Wood v Aldershot Town

On Tuesday night, Boreham Wood welcome 20th placed Aldershot Town to Meadow Park in the Vanarama National League.
Both the Wood and the Shots will be looking to put their results at the weekend behind them following defeats for both sides. Aldershot Town took on 8th placed Harrogate Town and were defeated at the death after a 90th minute winner from Harrogate’s Jack Emmett.
Meanwhile, Boreham Wood faced league strugglers AFC Fylde but it wasn’t meant to be for the home side after a poor performance led to a 2-0 loss.
THE CONTEXT
Boreham Wood weren’t on their game during Saturday’s fixture, seeing us lose 2-0 to a strong AFC Fylde side. Upon reflection of the performance, it is fair to say the visitors league position doesn’t match up with their ability, after an impressive display saw them clinch all three points at Meadow Park.
Despite this, Luke Garrard has not been best pleased with his side’s performance’s over the last two games, after claims that his side were once again carrying six or seven players, which you just can’t afford to do in the Vanarama National League.
Whereas, Aldershot faced an in-form Harrogate Town and failed to come away with any points after Jack Emmett came off the bench to score the winner in the 90th minute for the home side.
ALDERSHOT TOWN RECENT FORM
Aldershot currently sit 4th bottom in the form guide from their last six games which includes four defeats, a draw and a single victory. Excluded from that run of form was a narrow FA Cup defeat at Bromley, which saw them exit the competition at the Fourth Qualifying Round following a 4-3 defeat at Hayes Lane 10 days ago.
Aldershot Town have struggled immensely in-front of goal this season having only scored 17 times, meaning they have the second worst goal scoring record in the division in front of Chorley. Having only secured victory once in their last seven games in all competitions, a 4-0 comprehensive visitor over Dover Athletic, the Shots will be looking to replicate their performance and result of their last visit to Meadow Park, when they outplayed the Wood last March, winning 2-0.
ALDERSHOT TOWN PLAYER TO WATCH
Shamir Mullings, Striker
Shamir Mullings’ form has picked up of late, recently scoring two goals in four games for Aldershot Town and will look to carry on this form against the Wood on Tuesday night.
The 25-year-old has had a lot of experience playing non-league football, featuring for Bromley, Dagenham & Redbridge, Maidenhead United and several other clubs.
Most of Mullings’ experience has been on-loan which has been frustrating for the striker, but he will be hoping after signing permanently for the Shots at the start of the 2019/20 campaign, he will be able to cement his place in the first team on a long-term basis.

Boreham Wood 0-2 Aldershot Town (Saturday 23rd March 2019, National League)
Gary Waddock’s Aldershot Town improved their chances of survival in the National League after a 2-0 victory on the road to Boreham Wood.
In what could only be described as a six pointer, the Shots came out on top after John Goddard and Scott Rendell’s goals took their side to within eight points from safety.
A loss for the Wood meant Luke Garrard saw his side sit just six points from the drop zone.
IN FOCUS: MARK RICKETTS
Boreham Wood captain Mark Ricketts is our player ‘in-focus’ in the preview for Tuesday night’s game against Aldershot Town.
After a lengthy period at Woking, featuring 240 times for the Cards in a seven-year spell, the 35-year-old joined the Wood in 2016 and has featured over 100 times for the Wood.
Ricketts graduated from the Charlton Athletic Youth Academy in 2005 before going out on loan to MK dons. Unfortunately, “Ricko” wouldn’t break through to become a mainstay in the side at the Valley, and as such the midfielder signed a permanent professional contract with National League side Ebbsfleet United in 2006.
Since signing for the Wood, Ricketts has been vital to Luke Garrard and was instantly made club captain at the start of the 2016/17 campaign.
Over the past three seasons, “Ricko” has been an instrumental figure in Wood’s success which has included three visits to the FA Cup First Round Proper, including our famous first ever victory over a Football League outfit when we beat Blackpool 2-1 here at Meadow Park in 2017, as well as equalling our best ever FA Cup run reaching the Second Round Proper against Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena. In addition, Mark was at the heart of the midfield as skipper when we reached the Vanarama Promotion Final, which ended in heartache when we were defeated by 10-men Tranmere Rovers at Wembley Stadium 2-1.
When the time comes for “Ricko” to hang up his playing boots, which we hope will not be anytime soon of course, he will sure go down in BWFC history as one of our greatest ever captains and holding midfielders.

Once purchased, tickets are available to download directly to supporters’ phones via the Ticket Arena app and can also be printed at home and brought to the game for entry.

DISABLED OR LESS ABLE SUPPORTERS
BWFC has dedicated facilities for wheelchair bound and less able supporters. These include a viewing area and disabled toilet facilities. These are available via the West Stand.
Supporters wishing to make use of these facilities are asked to enter the stadium via the South Stand Turnstiles off Brook Road car park. Disabled parking bays are available in this car park.
Please note that these parking spaces are limited and on a first come, first served basis. Unfortunately, spaces cannot be reserved by the club.
Please note that carers tickets will only be issued to those with a valid carer’s card, or, proof that they require a carer.
USE OF CAR PARK AND CLUB HOUSE
No supporter parking is available at Meadow Park, the club car park is available to players, directors, officials and guests only.
Boreham Wood FC advise supporters to park in Brook Road Public Car Park. Access to the Stadium is available from this car park via the South Stand Turnstiles (for away supporters) and via a public footpath through the adjacent park (for home supporters.) Please note that parking charges may apply.
Alternative parking is also available via the Hertsmere Council Civic Car Park, which is less than a 5-minute walk to the club. Again, please note parking charges may apply.
For home supporters using Brook Road Car Park, who wish to use the clubs bar facilities, this is a short walk to the main club house through the park.
Unfortunately, it is Boreham Wood FC policy that our club house is for home supporters only on match days. Away supporters are advised to use the facilities in the town centre just a short walk away from the Stadium via Brook Road.
