LET’S CELEBRATE A LONG HARD SEASON AS WE STARTED IT – TOGETHER

11 May 2022

This Sunday will end our 74th season as Boreham Wood Football Club and, though it has not finished quite as well as we had once hoped, it has still been a season to remember, with life long memories made and a connection between town, community and club that has not been seen in our town for possibly 35 years or more.

Who would have believed we have now had 7 seasons playing in the National League, at the highest level of non-league football? Wasn’t it fantastic to get those FA Cup wins against two of our bigger local rivals in Barnet and St Albans City.

Those two early cup wins were then put slightly in the shade by our FA Cup 3rd Round 2-0 victory over League 1 side AFC Wimbledon, and then further so by our glorious backs to the wall, never say die, and never to be forgotten, Sunday evening down on the south coast. Luke Garrard and his troops had nearly 3,000 of our supporters acting as the 12th, 13th and 14th man, and they somehow overcame the now Premier League AFC Bournemouth, in front of an almost sell-out crowd and in front of a watching TV audience of millions.

And then, of course, we had the incredible thrill of playing at Goodison Park against Everton, and with the draw being made before our game on Merseyside, Boreham Wood were unbelievably in the FA Cup quarter final draw.

So, it’s fitting it is on a Sunday that our supporters, our manager and our players get the chance to say thank you to each other and finish the season off together. Some of you loyal supporters have followed us in rain, wind, snow and sunshine and so let’s ensure the day is seen by our Town and Community as a positive end to what has been an incredible season.

Next year will be our 75th Anniversary Season and let’s hope we can surpass this season’s achievements, as that will be our aim, but it is a long shot – let’s not also forget that we have averaged over 1,000 supporters at home over a season for the very first time in our history.

Let’s not forget these special memories, let’s now take advantage of the hugely discounted season ticket offers and let’s not forget the summer builds and the Chairman’s vision of a new fan zone is almost upon us – and finally, let’s not forget manager Luke Garrard has now signed a new three-year contract which is great news.

So come on Wood Army – let’s see the season out together – get down to Meadow Park on Sunday, to make it a very special Wood Army community and family day, and remember, if you’ve been to Meadow Park this season all entry is now half price, with all under 5s and under 12’s, if accompanied by an adult, going free.

You’ve been magnificent all season – so let Luke and the boys say thank you properly at the end of the game.

Come on the Wood.

OUR CLUB. OUR TOWN. OUR COMMUNITY.
