Boreham Wood Luke Garrard admits that he was frustrated following his sides failure to take at least a point from the match against Wrexham.
The Wood slipped to a 0-1 defeat to the Dragons and Meadow Park, with Alex Reid netting the winner from a set-piece.
The Wood saw a flurry of chances go missing, with the home side doing everything but put the ball into the back of the net.
“For all our dominance, we have not won a game of football,” Garrard exasperated. “I will find out the stats tonight, but I think that we probably had double figures, or at least close to double figures, in regards to shots on target.
“I think that our possession stats were probably better than theirs as well, but it boils down to them putting the ball in with quality and scoring a goal.
“I am full of frustration, but the boys have put in a shift and they have worked hard, but for me it is a disappointing bank holiday weekend.”
Garrard’s side impressed in both Saturday’s fixture against Tranmere Rovers and Monday night’s match against Wrexham, however, returned with only a point for their troubles.
The Wood are yet to keep a clean sheet this campaign, and the 31-year-old stressed the importance of rectifying this.
“We have yet to keep a clean sheet, and that is a negative of mine at the minute. We were close to 20 clean sheets last year, but we are seven games in at the minute and it is 11 goals against and we need to improve that.
“We have got goals in us, you have seen that, so it is very much about defensively getting a clean sheet on the board.
“If I am being critical, can our goalkeeper possibly save their goal? He has come out into a cluster and probably shouldn’t have done.
“I think that Grant is the best shot stopper in the league and that’s his strength, so I think that if he had stayed on his line then he could have put a hand to it.
“These are the little details that we need to improve on, but we had four chances with ten minutes to play, and I am talking good chances, not half-chances.”
The Wood run with a relatively small squad of just 16, but Garrard rebuffed the suggestion that this had any effect on their Bank Holiday weekend results.
Instead, the gaffer praised the calibre of player within his squad, with Dean Wells returning from injury and Ryan Johnson on International duty with Northern Ireland Under 21s.
“You look at Dean Wells coming in for Danny Woodards and Paul Benson coming in for Shaun Jeffers, there is quality in that 16 no doubt.
“It is important that we keep players fit and away from suspensions, but I would back that 16 against anyone at this level.
“I had no qualms putting Wellsy in, he is 100 games deep at Stevenage in the last three years; he understands the level and he understands what it takes.
“His experiences, his talking and his game management were good today, aerially he is strong and he defends with a hunger, so to have him back in the squad is very pleasing.
“We want to be able to let the likes of Woody dip out to keep him fresh, and then when Jamie Turley is back from illness, it may free up Tom Champion to move back up to his natural position in centre-mid.
“We have got a good calibre of player here, but the main thing for me is that they believe. They have a demand of each other, a demand of me and a desire to progress.”
