FA CUP MATCH PREVIEW – BOREHAM WOOD VS CARLISLE UNITED

4 November 2013

Town Invited To Get Cup Fever.

websitepicFA_CUPSky Bet League One Carlisle United will form the opposition in next weekend’s F A Cup First Round match against Wood at Meadow Park. This is the second year running Ian Allinson’s men have progressed to this stage of the competition and like last season, a plum home tie against a side in the highest tier to enter the competition at this stage is the reward.

These sort of occasions really set the nerves tingling for fans of any competitive sport . The chance to sample what will be a superb atmosphere on an afternoon when the eyes of the nation scour the land for the search of that fabled happening, the giant killing!

United have enjoyed a resurgence after a poor start to their league campaign under ex Republic of Ireland International Graham Kavanagh.  His 19 year professional career spanned Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Stoke City, Cardiff and Wigan, before ending his career at Brunton Park. Just two defeats in eight matches as manager thus far have given the Cumbrian faithful renewed hope for the season.

Sandwiched between Scotland and The Lake District The Cumbrians face a 300 mile journey to Meadow Park, sandwiched between London and Luton Airport! With Wood’s new West stand currently under construction the capacity has been set at 2500. With eight hundred of those tickets  offered to the visitors, it is important that Wood supporters take the initiative and grab their tickets early.

Last season a memorable match watched by over 1600 fans saw Uwe Rosler’s high flying Brentford forge a 0-2 victory in the same round of the competition after a very even first half.

With both sides very much in the spotlight on “Giant Killing Saturday” , the visitors know that they themselves are just two games away from a possible headline grabbing performance of their own against Premiership opposition!

In the words of Wood Boss Ian Allinson, “ It is a one off occasion that lasts ninety minutes and we need to believe”.
